CMA Starts Off New Season Right Where It Left Off

CMA Starts Off The Long Course Season With A Bang

Juniors and Age Group Golds Wow!!! This was, without a doubt, the best first meet of the season that these groups have ever had! Our 13 Junior swimmers and 6 AG Gold swimmers who participated in the meet collectively swam 100 best times... out of 102 swims!  That's 100% best times for the Golds and 97% best times for the Juniors and most of the time drops were huge!  In addition, these guys accomplished 25 new state cuts, some for the very first time!
Congratulations to newer Gold swimmers, Atticus Wei and David Terhakopian, on their first ever state cuts - in 50 breast and 100 breast, respectively!  Cardin Nguyen and Samantha Synsvoll each achieved five new state cuts, Sinjin Schmeck achieved four, Monique Ardines and Sophia Mezei each achieved three, Kellen McInelly swam two, and Jack Schoonover swam one. So cool!!!
In addition to all of the great best times, so many of our swimmers stepped out of their comfort zones and swam new events for the very first time!  From Juniors:  Chloe Carrell swam three new events and dropped 43 seconds in her 200 IM!  Grace Mehall swam both the 200m back and 200m breast for the first time!  Kytelyn Pieper swam the 200m back, 200m breast, and 400m free for the first time and dropped 34 seconds in her 200 IM!  Sienna Schmeck swam the 200m back for the first time and dropped 3-4 seconds in each of her other three events!  Katie Sena swam the 200m breast for the first time and dropped 10 seconds in her 100 free and 5 each in her 50 back and 50 breast!  Alex Terhakopian swam the 100m back, 200m free, and 200m IM for the first time and dropped 21 seconds in his 100 breast!  From Gold:  Bruce Bredder swam his very first meet and completed the 50 breast legally and fast!  All six events that Ryan Gretz swam were new to him and he did every one legally and very well!  Avery Hill dropped a total of nearly 40 seconds in her three events!  Sam Sena swam the 50m breast for the first time and dropped over 10 seconds in each his 50 back and 100 free!  David Terhakopian swam 100m back and 200m free for the first time, in addition to getting his first state cut in 100 breast! All six of Atticus Wei's events were brand new to him, including the 50m breast that he qualified for state in!
The successes of this meet will be tough to top, but our swimmers are already hard at work preparing for the next challenge, our CMA IMX/IMR Challenge Meet!
Seniors:  During the second weekend of April our seniors got to compete in their first long corse meet of the season. This meets follows closely after our spring break and a couple of weeks of general technique work, so the natural assumption is that the results should be somewhat muted. But despite not yet having trained any long course, our swimmers displayed quite a bit of toughness and the culmination of the training over the winter months was visible. Several of our swimmers posted best times in every event they competed in.  Four of them posted new personal best in eight events in a row. They were Michael Mehall (50/100/200 breast, 100/200/400 free, 50 back and 200 IM), Amaya Porter (50/100/200 free, 50&100 fly, 50&100 back and 50 breast), Mary Roalstad (50/100/200 free, 50/100/200 back, 100&200 breast), and Bethany Slivka (100/200/400 free, 100&200 breast, 100 fly, 200 back and 200 IM). Following those over achievers were Maggie Frohnhoefer with 5 PB's (100&200 back, 100 fly, 100 free and 200IM), Kaelyn Hinesley with 4 (50&200 back, 50 breast and 100 free), Caroline Bricker also with 4 (200 back, 200&400 free and 400 IM). Posting three new best times were Madelyn Branham (50&200 free and 100 back), Ysa Carrell (100 breast, 50 fly and 50 free) and Kambry Lightfoot (200/400 free and400 IM). Our most seasoned senior swimmer, Sophia Bricker managed to squeeze out one personal best time in her 50 breast.
