Diego Kitazuka earned Coach for a Day honors for the Tigers 1 practice group and led both the dryland and water sessions for his teammates on Wednesday, May 23. The Tigers 1 athletes earn 1 token for each practice attended that is completed to the best of their abilities. Tiger 1 athletes can then redeem their tokens for various awards - such as a leading the nightly countdown, a dryland game, Dryland Leader, or Coach for a Day. To be Coach for a Day, Diego had to save and turn in 100 tokens! "As he neared 100 tokens, he started asking to come every day to practice," his mom began. "He's been talking about and planning his sets for weeks!"
Diego took control of dryland right from the start, warming his teammates up with a 5-lap run. Exercises then included leap frogs, army crawls, struts, dinosaur crawls, “Diego” crabs, pencil rolls, and wheelbarrows, just to name a few. In the water, his teammates hung on every word as Diego explained his sets. They asked questions, were enthusiastic, and had a great practice… including the Diego set (see picture below).
Congratulations to Diego for his dedication to practice, hard work in the pool, and leadership among his teammates. We are honored that you were our first Coach of the Day!
