Regular practice schedule this week.  Summer Schedule Starts June 18th M-F 4-5 at Sheldon pool. S1-Pick 4, S2 S3 S4 S5-Pick 3, S6 S7-Pick 2. Make ups are welcome.

Tomorrow is our Dual meet with WSC. We will also do a group picture right before the TEAM Cheer at 2:35 on deck. Swimmers can wear their gray team shirts or suits.  Bring chairs as there won’t be much seating. We should have a few canopies for swimmers to sit under, but if you have one of your own you may want to bring it. Swimmers should bring extra clothes and towels to stay warm. Warm-ups at 2:00. You don’t need to come early.

Another story about a fast swimmer:

This girl started swimming on the team when she was about 8. Her parents signed her up because she needed to pick a sport and swimming is what she liked more than others.  She didn’t always have the best attitude at practice when she was younger. She would often complain about hard work and would fall behind in many sets.  Her favorite greeting to me was “What are we doing today?” then no matter what I would reply she would say  “ummmmm no thank you” Her parents were very consistent with bringing her to practice. They were super supportive and great swim parents but choose to take a back seat during practices and look at swimming as a chance for their daughter to get exercise and stay fit…which she did. There was never any pressure on her, however there was the expectation that she be there. The older she got the faster she got with each year her times got more competitive and she became more dedicated. In high school she won many high school district events and her name is still on the South Eugene High School Record board. My favorite memory is of her leading her heat in HS District Finals and walking out of the prep room to the song she choose “Peanut Butter Jelly Time” If you haven’t heard this song, take my word for it…it’s absurd…but so her. She then swam for Clairemont McKenna College down in CA. All through HS and most of middle school she was a great motivator and teammate and I feel very lucky to have had the opportunity to coach this girl! Her name was Emma Jones.
