Our first meet of the Long Course season kicked off last night at the first of three Friday Night at the Races at Berkeley Aquatic Center in New Providence. Swimmers of all ages from 9 different teams hit the water for a night of great swimming. Our attending swimmers came home with Career Best Times, Top Places, first-ever swims, and more.
Typically long course meets aren’t the place known for personal best times; the course is not only a longer distance, but the lack of walls physically taxes swimmers in ways that short course races don’t. Despite that, 10 Career best Times were earned by Peyton Bates (50 Free, 200 IM); Kayla Bhagaloo (50 Free); Christopher Gutierrez (50 Back, 100 Breast); Billy Ruddy (50 Back, 100 Breast, 100 Fly); Zach Bezold (50 Back); and Hannah Soutter (50 Breast).
We had 15 Top 10 Places in their age-groups swum by Sam Russell (2nd in 50 Free, 5th in the 200 IM); Nathaniel Kern (3rd in 50 Back); Billy Ruddy (8th in 50 Back, 100 Breast, 2nd in the 100 Fly); Jake Leddy (6th in 50 Back, 10th in the 100 Breast, 9th in 100 Fly); Zach Bezold (2nd in 100 Breast); Chris Soutter (4th in 100 Breast, 8th in 100 Fly); Sean Sharma (7th in 100 Breast); and congratulations to Jake Riva for taking two First Places (50 Back, 100 Fly)!
Great job, and good luck to everyone on Night 2 next Friday…
