As they head into the fourth and final evening at the New England Senior Championships at Brown University, Cole Kuster, Samantha Stevenson, and Asa Stone have really had an amazing weekend of swimming!
Starting things off on Thursday evening, Cole swam the 1000 yard freestyle where he placed 2nd out of over 30 male athletes with a time of 9:16.63. During the Friday morning prelims session, PVA had all three athletes racing their way through some exciting events! Asa competed in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 1:00.12 which was right on par with her best so far this year. She then went on to swim the 100 yard backstroke with another great time of 1:01.48. Sam Stevenson also competed in the 100 yard backstroke on Friday morning reaching the wall with a time of 1:01.30. This was Sam's first year qualifying for the NE Senior Championships and she went in with a splash! Cole had a great lineup of events on Friday morning as well which had him racing in the 100 yard butterfly first. He dropped over 2 seconds off his seed time touching in with a time of 52.84! Wrapping up the prelim session, Cole swam the 200 yard freestyle where he placed 5th with a time of 1:41.13 which qualified him to return that evening for the finals session. Cole came back strong Friday night to again race the 200 yard freestyle and drop another .54 seconds to round out his evening with a 5th place finish and time of 1:40.59.
Saturday brought about solid races for Cole Kuster where he started the day with the 200IM. He dropped over 2 seconds in this event and came away with a time of 1:56.23. Shortly thereafter in the Saturday prelim session, Cole swam the 500 yard freestyle where he raced his way to earn a spot in finals that evening with a time of 4:30.93. There were over 60 male athletes in the 500 yard freestyle at Seniors on Saturday morning! After a bit of afternoon rest, Cole returned Saturday evening to drop over 3.6 seconds in the 500 yard freestyle where he came in 1st place with a time of 4:25.37!
At prelims this morning (Sunday), the 3 athletes had several more impressive swims! Asa Stone started off the day with an awesome race in the 200 yard backstroke where she touched the wall with a time of 2:10.19. She then went on to compete in the 200 yard butterfly where she took it out strong and wrapped up with a time of 2:12.90.
