Next Tuesday December 17th and Thursday December 19th is our NCSS fun meets. This event is a lot of fun and not to be missed; however if your swimmer will not be attending - PLEASE let me know, as we would like to avoid empty lanes.
Tuesday December 17th - ALL NCSS swimmers in stage 1 & stage 2 from both Airdrie and Calgary are swimming in Airdrie regards less of when or where you regularly swim. The fun meet begins at 5:00 pm so please have your swimmer on deck by 4:50 pm ready to swim. There is NO workout for stage 3 or FUNDAMENTALS Airdrie swimmers due to the event, however there is swimming at Thornhill for Stage 3 swimmers only.
This will be the last class for all Stage 1 & 2 swimmers until swim class resumes on January 7th. Your progress reports will be handed out at this time as well.
The races will start at 5:00 pm; viewing area is limited so please come early if you would like a seat. Please do not send food with your swimmers, as it is not allowed on deck. The last race is scheduled for 6:30 pm. If your swimmer has to leave early for a Christmas concert, this is not an issue. Just let your coach or I know.
Please look at the attached meet program carefully to ensure I have not either missed your swimmer or spelt their name incorrectly. Again, if your swimmer will not be attending, please let me know so I can remove them from the program.
After the races, we will be handing out hotdogs to swimmers and families in the Woodland room. Your coach will also be available for any questions or concerns at this time as well.
Thursday December 19th , ALL stage 3 and fundamental swimmers from Calgary and Airdrie will be participating in the fun meet in Airdrie from 5:00 - 6:30 pm.
This will be your swimmer's last workout until January 7th. Progress reports will be handed out at this time as well.
If your swimmer has to leave early for a Christmas concert, please let your coach or I know. Please look at the attached meet program to ensure your swimmer has been entered and their name is spelt correctly. If your swimmer will not be attending, please let me know so I can remove them from the program.
We will be having hotdogs for swimmers and families after the races in the Woodlands room.

Welcome to our third newsletter of the swim season! If you do not receive this newsletter via email, please contact me as the website is our main means of communication and we would like to ensure all families are receiving the information that is sent out.

BATHING SUITS AND EQUIPMENT
If your swimmer has shoulder length hair or longer, they must wear the NCSA team cap as this will interfere with their focus and skills. Please also ensure your swimmer has proper fitting goggles prior to the start of each class.Your help with this is much appreciated!
All swimmers should have received their suit, cap and t-shirt. If your suit was the incorrect size, you can exchange the suit as long as the tags are still attached. T-shirts can also be exchanged.
SWIMMER OF THE MONTH
A swimmer from each group will be recognized by their coach as “Swimmer of the Month”. We will be awarding athletes that stand apart from their group for exceptional effort, attitude and achievements. Each Swimmer of the Month will receive a swim cap and a free PANAGOpizza compliments of Country Hills Panago Pizzato recognize their efforts.
Robin Loyola – Fundamentals
The improvements this group has been making is nothing short of impressive. We have continued to focus on our body positioning, introduced turns, dives and fly. We have increased our meters and are starting to move into more complex drills.
Madison Reinbold has earned our swimmer of the month nod due to her positive nature, coachability and great energy she brings to every workout. She adds a lot to our group and we are excited to see where this sport takes her!
Zac McLeod - Stage 3
This month my swimmers and I are currently working on the skill of underwater kick. Underwater dolphin kick is the fastest stroke in swimming (yes it’s a stroke), my swimmers need to have an understanding that holding their breath while doing streamline underwater dolphin kick is one of the best skills to practice. Although it might not be the most fun thing to practice, its crucial for them to have a bases before moving up to competitive swimming. My swimmer of the month is Hunter Leggett , Hunter has been great to coach and has shown great improvements in his technique.
Jordyn Gagnon – Stage 2
We have worked very hard this month! Over the course of November, we have continued to work on freestyle and backstroke. Similarly to September and October, we have continued to work on free and back kick, ensuring that we are kicking super fast from our hips. Furthermore, we have also been working on freestyle and backstroke pull in more detail. For freestyle pull, we have been focusing on keeping our fingers glued together, bringing our elbows up, and catching as much water as possible. For backstroke pull, we have been trying to get into the habit of bringing our thumbs out of the water, and our pinkies into the water, as well as brushing our arms against our ears every time we take a stroke. The swimmers have built up a lot of endurance and strength since the beginning of November, and I am very pleased with the amount of progress that they have made. Keep up the excellent work swimmers!
Airdrie's Stage 2 swimmer of the month for November is Thomas Vicei ! Thomas is an incredibly kind and optimistic individual, who significantly contributes to a positive atmosphere within the group. He always shows up to practice ready to listen, learn, and try his best. Thomas is truly a pleasure to coach. Congratulations Thomas!
Caleb Sharpe – Stage 1
This month my swimmers have been working very hard on backstroke. We focused on kicking on our back with our toes pointed and our heads still. Everyone has improved very quickly since we first started and I am very excited to see them swim in the December meet. Great job everyone!
The stage 1 Airdrie swimmer of the month is Tessa Larson!
Tessa is a very hard worker and has a great attitude at practice. She always does what is asked and is a fantastic listener. She has worked hard on her freestyle and streamline. Tessa has been very fun to teach, keep up the good work!
Rhett Rosgen – Stage 1
My swimmers are progressing so well. We all have so much fun together. Lately we have been working on our tight streamlines, getting them ready for their next meet.
Ana Ortiz – Stage 1
Hey there, another fun and exciting month has passed and the swimmers have seen great improvement in both their backstroke and freestyle. This month, we mainly focused on kick for backstroke, the swimmers even started using fins (which they were very excited about). Their kick is stronger and they have more control. In freestyle, we’ve been focusing on breathing, making sure they don’t hold their breath and breathe to the side. The swimmers have been very successful in this as well! Great job!
Katelyn Stuart – Stage 3
The month of November was huge for our swimmers as they tackled some completely new stroke techniques and did so superbly! The focus this month was on dolphin kick and using that dolphin kick to give the swimmers a powerful start to their swimming. We worked on dolphin kick in a number of ways, mainly by using a wide variety of drills to teach the basic movement of the kick and then repeating the drills on our backs, fronts and sides in order to get comfortable using dolphin kick. We also had the opportunity to use fins, noodles, and the dive tank!
In the upcoming month of December, we will be working on skills we have already learned and fine-tuning them in preparation for our fun meet! Head and body position, streamline, kick and arm action will all be focuses for both freestyle and backstroke. It’s a shorter month and is sure to fly by, so we will be hard at work!
My swimmer of the month is Elenor McKay . She never fails to push herself. She consistently puts in her best work and has improved by leaps and bounds in her swimming. While her skill level is improving, her enthusiasm has never wavered; she is always smiling and has kind words for her teammates.
Erica Meller – Stage 2
Wow another month come and gone! I’m so glad to see swimmers showing up on deck smiling excited to swim. This month we have done more meters than the previous months and I’m seeing great improvement in the swimmers endurance. This month's main focus has been freestyle, primarily technique with head position and kick. We have done various kicking drills which helps stabilize their body position during swimming. I am starting to see the kick translate into their strokes. As for head position, we are working on looking at the bottom of the pool while swimming and when they breathe they are using “sneaky side breaths” (breathing to the side with one goggle in the water one out). I've seen great improvements on the technical aspects of freestyle and I can’t wait to further perfect their strokes. Great work everyone!
The Calgary Stage 2 Swimmer of the Month is.... Clark Schultz !
Clark shows up to each and every workout with a positive attitude and can’t wait to jump in. Clark is always ready to tackle a challenge to better his swimming. He puts forth his best effort and is showing immense improvement. Great work Clark- Keep it up!
Aimee Bereziuk – Stage 1
The swimmers have been working very hard and improving well over the past couple of weeks. This month we began focusing on freestyle body position and freestyle kick, along with reviewing all of our basic swimming techniques that we learned last month. We have also started swimming part of the workout in the dive tank to prepare for the New Year when we start swimming 25 meter lengths. This season has been going very well so far, keep up the good work!
Cadence Carleton – Stage 1
Hi parents! This past month our group has been focusing on freestyle body position and push off technique. The kids are all progressing really well and I’m very excited to watch them in their races. Within the next few months we will work into backstroke body position and lots of kick! Hope everyone likes the season so far and is excited for the rest of the year!
Sophia Greco – Stage 1
In November the swimmers have worked extra hard on their freestyle and backstroke. Remembering to keep their head down, point toes and blow bubbles the whole time. They have been doing amazing. In December we will be getting into the more technical side of the strokes. Excellent work swimmers!
This month the Swimmer of the month is Eric Chen ! Eric always shows up to every practice with a smile on his face and ready to learn. He also tries his very best at practice! Keep up the good work!!
Michaela McFarlane – Stage 1
This month has been a great month of improvement. The focus for November was on head position and breathing to the side in freestyle. The swimmers practiced these goals with drills like mountain arms and one arm up, one arm down. I am very pleased with the progress of my swimmers they have really excelled at listening and it’s starting to show in their technique of the strokes. I am looking forward to another wonderful month.
