What a great day yesterday! Thank you so much to all of the parents who volunteered to help with the meet as officials, timers, clerk of course, etc. Meets like this cannot happen without you all, so thank you!
While we did get pretty lucky with a warm morning, the water being THAT cold caught us all off-guard. The kids did a great job of being tough and persevering. Complete results from the meet are attached to this email, but our women's team won their meet, 223-141. Our men's team TIED SwimPack at 143 apiece. Our mixed relays held them off enough for a combined team victory of 380-338. While, the overall scores don't matter quite so much as kids making individual improvements, it's fun to go 1-0-1 if we're going to put in all of the work to host!
There were a LOT of swimmers who swam in their first meet ever (or at least in well over a year)! Seriously, I couldn't be more impressed with their maturity and toughness. Our new, young guys have made a ton of improvement over the last month and it showed yesterday. I can't wait to see what they can accomplish after another 5 months of work. Chloe, Abbie, Madison, Jaxon, James, Lily, Sophie, Libby, Avery, Jaxon, and Kentlee were all great!
The cold water temperature was obviously a big confounding factor, but many, if not most, of our veterans also put together races that were even better than they swam just a month ago. Wyatt, Ethan, Jaylee, Edie, Davis, Elise, Ella, Emily, Andrew, Lea, Maggie, Boone, Ellory, Leah, Jimmy, Harper, Marissa, and Savannah all had at least one best time, if not several. Just imagine how many more there would be if it hadn't been a polar bear plunge. A full times report is also attached to this email.
In spite of the cold water, we actually had a few swimmers earn cuts to the (maybe happening) State championship meet in March (or May...). The KYLSC State cuts are also attached to this email. Carlie Hall earned two cuts, in the 100 Back and 100 Fly and was 0.14 off of the 50 Free! Ethan Hatfield repeated his State cuts in the 200 Free and 50 Fly. Davis House earned the 50 Breast cut by over 1.5 seconds! There were also a few very near misses, with Lea Kraft less than 1 second off of the 50 Breast cut, Kentlee Patrick was less than 0.50 sec off of the 50 Free, Marissa Thomas was 0.12 sec off of the 100IM. Andrew Jirak was 1.2 sec off the 50 Free. We're getting there! Having folks getting so close to these in September is HUGE! Normally, we're battling for State cuts at the last minute in February.
I was late getting the t-shirt order in, so they'll be ready early this week. I'll have them at practice as soon as they're in.
It is very likely that we will have a similar meet against the Commonwealth Swim Club at the HEATED Danville Country Club pool in late October. There are still several details to figure out and finalize, but pencil in 10/24 as a likely date. I should have more information in next weekend's update.
It should be a normal week for practices! See you tomorrow.
