LEXD Turkey Tangle Meet Wrap-Up, Etc.

What a great weekend!  This is a long one, so buckle up.

From our newest swimmers having great experiences in their first-ever meets, to our 9-14s really battling (and getting!) their first-ever State cuts, to our high schoolers battling through a tough Friday and putting together some very good swims on Saturday and Sunday, it was a fun weekend that absolutely flew by.

Firstly, congrats to Griffin Miracle (6) and Deklen Kissick (9) for competing in their first-ever meet this weekend!  They did a great job of handling the new experience, from Clerk of Course, to "diving" off the blocks, no DQs, all without their parents being around much (or at all)!  Great job, boys!

Our 13-Unders were simply outstanding.  We had a lot of first ever swims with our 8&Unders, including the 200 Freestyle and 200 IM.  200s are a long way for the young guys and they were fearless on Friday.  That was followed up with a lot of the 8&U sticking around after the mid-day session and throwing down in the 100IM with the 9-10yo again.  Most went all best times: Wyatt Allen, Abbie Camp, Bray Carroll, Madison Denniston, Jaylee Hearne, Davis House, Edie House, Elise Howes, Deklen Kissick, Lea Kraft, Patrick Kraft, Libby McCormick, Griffin Miracle, Samantha Moore, Leah Pelfrey, Jordan Pustelnik, Annie Steger, Libby Taylor, Savannah Thomas, Harris Thornbury.

There were several that went all best times but 1 or 2 events: Ethan Hatfield, Sophie Lewis, Maggie Manley, Knox Taylor, Marissa Thomas, Mollie Grace Tucker all had really great meets.

With this came some first state cuts for several in their new age groups and others adding onto their State program.  Jordan Pustelnik, who just started swimming 15 months agao, smashed the 13-14 200 backstroke cut and is very close in several others.  Libby Taylor just aged up into the 13-14 age group and took the two hardest cuts, the 400 IM and 200 Butterfly and is very close in several others..  Mollie Grace Tucker got her very first 9-10 cut in the 100 IM.  Davis House added a second 11-12 cut in the 50 Free...but turns 13 next month!  Harper Sebulsky turned around a tough Fri/Sat and got a second cut in the 11-12 50 Backstroke on Sunday.  Ethan Hatfield added onto his list of state cuts with the 50 Breast.  Marissa Thomas also added on and got the 200 IM cut on Friday night.  Like I said earlier, all of the younger guys swam so, so well, but topping them off with new people in the State meet is really great.

I also walked away pretty impressed with the 15&Overs, too.  Friday...wasn't a great night for them.  The older guys typically need a week or two of rest to swim best times.  But after a series of rough 500s on Friday there was a real chance that the meet was going to spiral.  But it didn't!  They rallied and put together several very solid swims, including some best times by Andrew Jirak and Taylor Hatfield.  It's easy to stay positive when you're swimming well, but staying focused and resilient when things aren't going according to plan is a real skill I'm so proud to see them developing.  Additionally, comparing their times to a November meet last year, most were ahead of those times in those same events!

T-Shirts
I think I got them out to most of the team, but if your swimmer did not come home with the new, gray team t-shirt, I'll have them at the pool.  Just have them come and grab one from me!

December Meets
I want to preface meet announcements with the understanding that Covid is getting worse everywhere, please know that I have no intention of taking our team anywhere that isn't complying with USA Swimming, KY Swimming, State and local health department guidelines.  However, if you are not comfortable attending meets at this time, THAT IS TOTALLY FINE!  Please let me know and I will do my best to make accommodations!

Central Kentucky Aquatics Invitational, Dec 4-6
This meet is in Russell Springs, KY, about a 1:45 drive from Winchester, west of Somerset, and is a 2- or 3-day timed finals meet, depending on age.  I intend this meet mostly for our 12&U swimmers, but if there are any 13&O that can't make the meet in Barbourville (see below), please attend this one!  The full meet information is attached to the  Event page for this, so please read through it all before asking questions!  A block of hotel rooms has been reserved at the Best Western in nearby Columbia.  That info is on the Event page as well.

USAS-KY 18U Winter Championship and Open Meet, 11-13
This meet is being held at the Stiver Aquatic Center in Barbourville, KY and is really two-meets-in-one.  It is primarily intended for our 13&O.  The 18U Winter Championship is a 3-day prelims-finals meet and is using the times standards of Futures+4% and running the same event program as is usually run at Winter Junior Nationals.  Since that meet isn't happening this year, many LSC's are hosting a competitive winter meet as a substitute.  For those with time standards, you can swim up to 6 total events as long as you have at least one cut and no more than 3 per day.

For those without time standards, they are running an Open timed-finals meet each day in-between prelims and finals of the Championship meet, running the same events each day.  There are no time standards for this meet, so all can attend.  If the two meets are sufficiently small, they will be combined and everyone will have a prelims-finals meet.

For both groups, this will be a rested, tapered meet similar to a normal December meet!  Hotel information is already on the Event pages, and the meet information will be added in the next day or two.  I'll let you all know when that is posted!

If you have any questions at all, please let me know.
