The SRS Board of Directors has passed the following motion:
team, within the Snake River Swimming LSC, will need to submit
their application to be a Safe Sport Recognized Program (SSRP) by
January 31, 2021. Any team which does not submit their
application by January 31, 2021, will not be allowed to host a USA
Swimming sanctioned event. If teams are not hosting meets, a fine
of $100 will begin being assessed after the May HOD meeting for any
team that has not submitted their SSRP application by
- The fine will not be able to be fully voted on until Spring HOD. However, we would like to move forward with the motion as is, as allowed in our By-Laws per section 3.2.1 “The SRSI Board of Directors shall establish reasonable fees, procedures, and documentation required of an applicant for a sanction or approval for, or observation of, a swimming competition to be conducted within the Territory.”
As was discussed at both Spring and Fall
HOD's this year, while it is not mandatory yet, it will be
mandatory per USA Swimming for all teams to comply within 2021.
Snake River had been working towards the goal of this being
complete by December 2020. The first LSC to become totally Safe
Sport recognized will receive financial incentives, nationwide
recognition, and a meet and greet with the USA Swimming Board of
Directors, as well as National Team Athletes. Each individual team
who earns their SSRP recognition is also entered into a
monthly drawing to receive a cash gift and to have an individual
meet and greet with a National Athlete for a one-on-one session
with their team.
We recognize all teams have not yet completed their SSRP but many are very close. Teams will have from January to May for their finalization and approval with USA Swimming to meet the requirements before a fine is assessed. If teams are struggling to meet requirements, our Safe Sport Chair, Natalie, and the Westen Zone Program Development Manager, Juan Caraveo, understand being a small LSC comes with its own challenges. They are both happy to help teams in any way they can to reach their SSRP certification.
