March 14, 2021
Dear New & Returning Highland Swim Team Families,
After attending the NVSL Seeding Meeting today, we are happy to report that Highlands Swim will be in Division 1 for the ninth year in a row! The other Division 1 teams include: Chesterbrook, Overlee, Tuckahoe, Donaldson Run and Dowden Terrace. We are seeded 4th. The 2021 Saturday Swim A Meet Schedule has been finalized and can be found here on the Highlands Team Website. Please keep these dates in mind when making summer plans!
We are working closely with the Highlands Board and closely monitoring the State of Virginia’s Covid guidance. We will have information shortly regarding practice times for the summer season, Monday evening B meets, and other swim team activities. Divisionals, Divisional Relay Carnival, All Star Relays, and Individual All Stars are still under consideration by the NVSL. We know that families are anxious for information as they make plans for the upcoming summer and we so appreciate your patience during these unusual times! We will continue to share information as it becomes available.
Swim team and Mini Whomper registration will open on March 20th!
Beginning March 20, please visit our Highlands Team website at https://www.teamunify.com/Home.jsp?team=recnvslht to register. We will also send out an email with the registration link on March 19. Swim team registration will close on April 20th.
TEAM SUIT AND SPIRIT GEAR: The registration email will also include a link to the 2021 Highlands Team Store to order team suits and other gear. The Team Store has some fun new spirit wear items and returning favorites, including personalized swim caps. Our new team suit for the 2021 season is also up on the team store site. Please note that for this season, swimmers will need to bring a kickboard to each practice. Kickboards will be available for purchase in the team store.
PARENT VOLUNTEERS: Every family is expected to volunteer in some capacity. Meets and other fun team traditions only happen through the efforts of many parent volunteers. Plus, volunteering is a great way to meet other Highlands families. Descriptions of volunteer jobs can be found here. We will send out volunteer sign-up information in April.
Certified Stroke and Turn Judges - Consider taking a class at the NVSL Officials Clinic to become a certified Official for A and B meets. No experience or swimming background is necessary. Please contact Dan Russell ([email protected]) for questions and more information on becoming a stroke and turn judge.
COACHING FOR THE 2021 SEASON: We are happy to see so many of our Whomping Turtles interested in coaching at Highlands this upcoming season, and will be continuing our tradition of hiring and promoting our coaches from within the Highlands community. Coach Kelly Rose and Coach Jessica will be meeting with the Team Reps soon to go over the coaching staff, and setting up a Coaches meeting for May.
While this upcoming summer may not look exactly like it has in past seasons, we are hoping it will be relatively close to a normal season. We are super excited to start practicing and racing again and most importantly seeing all of our Whomping turtles back in the water!!!
Get ready to WHOMP! See you soon!
Your Team Reps,
Cheryl Farley & Gillian Russell
