2021 Spring Sing (flows better than "spring swim")

Good morning Seahorses family!  It’s exciting to be back at the pool after an off-season swimming with my family in the Caribbean (long story I’ll tell you all later, but I grew up down south before coming to Dewing).   And don’t you worry, it’s a little-known fact that seahorses can’t get covid, so I’m not bringing anything back except a nice suntan.

Anyway, while not a “normal” season, we hope to have more practice opportunities, sea ponies, lessons, and even meets this year.  Exciting stuff! However, because we’re not out of the seaweed yet, we will need to limit at least our spring practices to smaller groups.  We currently plan to have 4 swimmers per lane.  We will have lane coaches in the water for our younger groups (8 and under); those coaches will wear face shields.  We’ll also have at least two coaches on deck, but we will ask parents to stay off the pool deck for now.  We may reach out to some parents to be volunteer supervisors for the younger kids, although sometimes the older ones cause more mischief.

To get as many of you in the water as possible, we are going to have two, three-day sessions for each age group: Monday/Wednesday/Friday and Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday.  As you probably recall, this cohort setup is similar to how we did summer “camp” last year.  After registration closes on March 29th, you will be able to sign up for your preferred schedule at midnight, Friday April 2nd (early Saturday).  We know this is a bit tough staying up so late – at least tough for some…not this party seahorse – but that’s the way teamunify works.

This schedule is for Spring practice only.  For your reference, our proposed spring schedule can be found here.  The summer schedule is still TBD, but we currently show as a reminder the old normal, not to be confused with the new normal.

We know many of you have conflicts, but unfortunately we can’t work around those.  For safety, we need to follow certain protocol that have been adopted by many of the local teams and sports organizations.  Hopefully you will find something that works for you and your little guppies.  After the session sign-up, we will let you ASAP which days you are assigned.  We understand that the uncertainty and potential conflicts can be frustrating, but we ask for your patience and flexibility as we try to offer the best program possible.

Of course, all of this is subject to change, but hopefully any change is for the better.  If/when things start to open up, we’ll revise our schedule.  Be on the lookout for emails from me, Heather, and Jeff for updates throughout the season.

Please send any questions to [email protected].  Emails sent directly to any of us may get lost in email purgatory.  We don’t want you to miss an opportunity, nor do we want to miss any questions, because of a lost email.

With hugs and kisses,

Sammy
