Paige Arnold (15) and Simon Lins (16) represented PST at the TYR 18&U Spring Cup in Irvine over the weekend, the highest level competition PST has ever attended, as it required Junior National and Futures times to qualify. Paige had a great meet dropping time in both the 50 LCM Free and 100 LCM Fly. Simon was superb and came 2nd in the 50 LCM Freestyle and posted the 4th fastest 100 LCM Freestyle and 10th fastest 100 LCM Fly time of the meet. Congratulations to you both and it is a privilege to be your coach!

Internal Official Training Sat, May 15th:

If you aren’t sure what it means to officiate, come to part or all of an internal training with Rachel Long where amongst friends, you can be totally comfortable to ask any and all questions - NO prior swim experience is necessary! She will include both an “in-class” and on deck portions so, in total, plan on ~4 hours with 15-30 min drive time between to get to the Encinal pool:

In Class (12:30pm-2pm): 1.5-2 hours on zoom to go over the logistics of becoming an official (forms, tests, process); discuss what to look for in each stroke; and answer some common questions about meets/sign ups, etc.

On deck (2:30pm-4pm): 1.5-2 hours in person at the Encinal pool to observe the kids swimming; talk about positioning to get the best view; and have the swimmers demonstrate bad swimming.

If interested, please email Amy Aubrecht at [email protected] so we have a headcount and to get the Zoom link.

PST Mentoring Program:

Need advice on how to stay motivated? Have a question about managing race day nerves? Just want to chat with someone who gets it because they’ve been there? The mentoring program is underway but there’s always room for more mentors and mentees! Click here to fill out the google form and take advantage of this wonderful opportunity (and if you need more reasons or tips on being a good mentor, check out this SwimSwam article on Why swimmers should peer mentor younger teammates).

And if you are a PHS student, you can log community service hours for time spent with your mentee in Track It Forward!

Please reach out to Kate Aubrecht if you have any questions ([email protected]).

Guidance for practice after travel, alternate swim meets

With decreasing rates of COVID19, frequently changing guidance, and events and gatherings beginning again, we adopted the following guidance for swimmers who plan to travel or engage in larger in person gatherings. Our goal with this guidance is to maintain a safe environment for our swimming cohorts but be fair and not overly burdensome.

1. For swimmers who travel (>120 miles, or by air travel anywhere) or engage in large in person events where strict masking and distancing are not both maintained (such as high school or regional swim meets, or large gatherings with eating), we recommend that they not attend swim practice until they have tested negative for COVID 3-5 days after return.

2. For example, if they return home on a Sunday, and they have a test on a Wednesday (day 3 after return), they may return to practice as soon as that test is resulted and is negative.
