May 3, 2021
Our program is focused on developing solid technique while
maintaining the fun of participating in a team sport. Last year
(2020) we finished 1st overall in our league in a virtual
championship! We had roughly 25 divers and 145 swimmers.
For those new to the club & swim/dive team, it is an excellent way to be introduced to our sport. No previous experience is required, and you can start at any age. We participate in the Private Pool Swim League (PPSL) with age groups 8&Under, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14 and 15-18. Our season is a short 6 weeks with Championships the week of July 12.
All children of club members are welcome and WANTED!

We offer the following:
(Kids can both swim AND dive):
Killer Whales Dive team - all ages thru high school.
Killer Whales Swim Team - generally age 7 thru high school. (6-year-old swimmers that can swim 25 meters unassisted may be included with coaches’ permission).
Mini Whales Swim program– generally 6 & under. Minis swim at our home meets only and are encouraged to participate in the Eastern Swim Championships. Practices will be offered 2 days/week. Some 6 & under swimmers will be asked to swim with the Killer Whales if the coaches believe they are ready for the additional challenge.
Our practices will be posted on the website.
Practice times will be determined based on signups and COVID protocols. Last year during COVID we ran practices assigning times by name, in the morning Monday through Saturday offering 3 practices per swimmer. In a normal year, practices are mornings Monday through Friday with assignments determined by age group – 5 practices offered. We will follow current US Swimming practice and CDC guidelines when determining the final practice schedule.
practices will be offered
from 10-10:30AM at a minimum.
Head Coach: Aimee Mathews Merk
Head Coach: Katie Mussman
Assistant Coaches: Ben Habel and Clara Keiser
Jr. Coaches: Jacqueline Young and Jeff Osterman
We have 5 Dual Meets every week beginning June 10th. There will be two Championship Meets offered the week of July 12th. PPSL Championships (the club may only enter two divers / swimmers and one relay per event) and Eastern Championships (the club may enter as many swimmers in each event as they wish). The league has not yet determined if there will be an Eastern Championship for diving.
While a minimum of participation in 2 dual meets is required to be considered for the PPSL Championship meets, your participation in EVERY meet is important to our competitive position as well as the training for your Swimmer/Diver.
Dual meets are as follows:
Please note exact times and location still to be determined. Last year, due to COVID, all meets were at home swimming a virtual meet against our opponent in sessions by age group with restricted ‘fan’ attendance. The League is working to consider COVID appropriate options for 2021.
6/10 Thursday: Madeira vs MtL
6/17 Thursday : Harper’s Point vs MtL
6/24 Thursday : MtL vs Shady Lane
7/1 Thursday : MtL vs Wyoming
7/8 Thursday : Anderson Hills vs MtL
Special Note to Parents:
Parents are an important supporter to our team. We expect one volunteer from each participating member to help in some way, minimally half a meet or a full mini session you attend.
This year, we also need to fill the following ‘skilled’ positions for the team. Please consider joining the mighty group of crazy, dedicated parent Killer Whale supporters!
We will train and support you! Please use the ‘contact us’ on the team website for more information so we can set you up with training.
- Dive Team parent coordinator.
- Swim Officials
- Diving Judges
The fee is $60/swimmer/diver; Minis $30/swimmer not also diving: $120 max/family.
The coaches and swim team committee are very excited for this season and look forward to the many successes the kids will have as a member of the swim, dive and mini whale team. If you have any questions and to register please visit our website at mtlkillerwhales.com.
