YMCA Swimmers, Coaches, Officials, and Families,
I am very excited to bring you some long overdue good news. On Sunday May 2, 2021 the Illinois YMCA State Swimming Committee voted unanimously to put the 2021 Long Course State Meet back on the schedule.
This year’s meet will be held on the weekend of July 23-25, 2021 once again back at Lake Central High School in St. Johns Indiana. We are very excited to bring this little bit of normalcy back to our YMCA Swimming community. The meet will be the normal Championship meet that we have held for several years now, however we may have to limit the number of coaches per team, officials on deck, and spectators in attendance. We are hoping things will be back to normal by then but wanted to be very up-front about that possibility. We are working on ways to allow as many spectators as possible, but it is a fluid situation at this time and we will continue to update everyone on any changes.
I would also like to address one last important point. Members of the Championship Committee worked hard to make sure we could financially support having this meet. We do not try to make money on any of our meets other than to support our meets and other programs that we have and were planning on rolling out prior to COVID. The Championship Committee is currently seeking sponsorships and donations to make sure we cover the budget. If you or someone you know would like to help please put them in contact with the Meet Director at [email protected]
Again I am very excited to make this announcement and look forward to seeing you all on the pool deck in July. Since the meet will be going on during the highest level of competition for the world’s swimmers……. the theme for this year’s long course state meet is Team USA in support of our Olympic Team at the 2021 Tokyo Games.
Please be patient as we roll out the information to everyone.
