Great job to the 48 CAST swimmers who attended the Fazarri’s Open swim meet in Lewiston last weekend, the first full invitational in over 18 months! Our kids did a fantastic job-despite some chilly, overcast days and with little to no 50 meter training, every swimmer made the most of their opportunity to race. The coaches were thrilled with how fast our kids swam and the attitudes on display the whole weekend long!
To kick things off, a big shoutout to our first-time competitors, Ella Hill and Ellie Ruth! Both of these C squad ladies began their competitive careers with the challenges of an outdoor 50 meter meet and swam like veterans-Ella took on the very difficult 200 IM for her first race, and Ellie completed a very speedy 100 breaststroke. We’re looking forward to many more races from both of them!
A pair of team records fell to our group of very talented 13-14 girls. Lauren Stephens, Elishka Janout, Camryn Schmidt, and Pema Anain broke the 200 medley relay record on Saturday, and Trista Slife joined Camryn, Elishka, and Pema to break the 200 free relay record on Sunday. These ladies represent a true powerhouse for our club!
Several swimmers earned CAST top-10 marks; Riley Taylor blasted her way onto the leaderboard, with top-10 performer times in the 400 IM, 200 Fly, and 100 Fly. Pema earned a top 10 performance time in the 1500 free, and now owns the 7th fastest swim in team history. Kathryn Gyde vaulted to the 5th fastest performer spot in the 100 breaststroke. She joined Trista and Elishka in rewriting the women’s 200 breaststroke as the 8th, 9th, and 10th fastest swimmers respectively in team history.
Our swimmers were well represented in the high point races for their age groups; Dallin Stephens took first place for the 10 and under boys, swimming 11 total events including the 1500 free! Camryn Schmidt claimed first place for the 13-14 girls in a very tightly contested race that came down to the last event. Other top-6 high point finishers included Maggie Sobek (2nd), Brielle Schmidt (4th), and Everly Desancic (6th) for the 10 and under girls, Tillie Sobek (4th) for the 11-12 girls, Pema Anain (3rd), Elishka Janout (5th) and Trista Slife (6th) for the 13-14 girls, Kathryn Gyde (3rd) and Gabby Garasky (5th) for the 15-16 girls, and Jake Sachtjen (6th) for the 15-16 boys.
This meet marked the last competition for one of our graduating seniors; Maverick Royalty will be off to basic training for the Coast Guard next month. Maverick ended his competitive career on a pitch perfect 50 fly, and cheered his lungs out all weekend for his teammates. We will miss his enthusiasm on deck and wish him the best of luck!
Fazarri's was a fantastic start to the summer season-100% of CAST swimmers not only dropped time, but dropped a ton of time relative to their competition. We are well set up and excited for a great rest of the summer!
