As many of you know, on January 24 Coach Robin Jacobs passed away after a brief illness.  A valued member of WSY/TYDE team for over 35 years, she retired in May 2020, but returned to the pool deck last fall to help coach at the William G. White YMCA.

Robin will be missed greatly and her legacy will forever live on.  At the request of her husband, Coach Tom Slack, there will be a memorial to celebrate and honor Robin on Sunday, June 20 at 4:00 pm at William G. White YMCA.  You and your family are invited to attend.  To help us anticipate attendance, please RSVP to the Robin Jacobs Memorial on SignUpGenius.  Be sure to wear your favorite TYDE or WSY shirt & bring a chair if you wish.

Over 35 years ago, Robin arrived in Winston-Salem from Pittsburgh, PA to start coaching at WSY.  She helped oversee and guide the team’s transition to TYDE and coached at the club, high school and college levels.

Her post-graduate study in Exercise Physiology and Sport Psychology at the University of Pittsburgh enabled her to help each swimmer develop to the best of his or her ability.  Robin served as coach for four Eastern Zone All-Star Teams, the National Age Group Camp and the NC Select Team.  She coached numerous state and nationally ranked swimmers and was named ASCA/NC Swimming Age Group Coach of the Year for 1995, 1997 and 2008.

In addition to her responsibilities as Associate Head Coach for TYDE, Robin most recently coached the Gold 3 practice group at Fulton and returned to WGW last fall.  She always said her mission and focus as a coach was to use swimming as a tool to develop great people who will be effective and sympathetic leaders in their adult lives.

We hope you will be able to join us on June 20 to celebrate and honor Robin’s legacy and memory.  Please feel free to forward this to fellow WSY/TYDE team members.
