Teaching Tuesday: Maintaining Healthy Recovery Techniques

So many of the best swimmers have developed a recovery routine or have at least added different recovery techniques and practices into their schedules throughout their training regimen. As young swimmers start their journeys in the sport, it is important that parents help them develop and maintain healthy recovery techniques.

Here are a few recovery tips that help swimmers perform better in practices and at competitions:

  • HYDRATE!
  • Get enough sleep, 8 hours is always a goal
  • Foam roll
  • Stretch
  • Eat within 30 minutes after a workout
  • Get a massage
  • Look into using compression gear
  • Fully cool down after practice
  • Take naps
  • Take ice baths

*This is not an exhaustive list of all recovery techniques and routines*

We hope that these tips can be helpful for both parents and athletes to use in their weekly schedules!
