Divisionals and Winter Swim volunteers, banquet, last call for pics

This time of the summer is always bittersweet for me...the end of our official division Sat A meets and Wed. Developmental meets and no more little flipper practices.

I know, I know...some of you are probably looking forward to sleeping in...while those of you whose swimmers made the divisionals meet roster next Saturday are still having to wake up for divisionals practice all next week. Just to be clear, it doesn't matter what your swimmer's times were leading up to divisionals, swimmers have to use only their times at Divisionals to possibly qualify for the All Stars meet where the fastest swimmers from all four divisions will compete.

It wouldn't be a weekly shout out from me if I didn't ask for meet volunteer sign ups. A candid reminder, if your swimmer is in the pool, you should be signing up to volunteer. Please don't wait for me to ask ya on deck that morning as the Divisionals meet has different requirements of the team rep than our usual meets.

Don't get me wrong...I told folks throughout the season that I would do what needed to be done to make this COVID-19 season happen. far, I've done my best to keep my end of the deal. As a result, at all the meets I attended, you saw me handling multiple roles at once. However... divisionals is different. I personally cannot do any other job other than team rep for our team that day. And this is how it should be in the future as well as we begin the transition into the upcoming season.

For the next two meets (Divisionals and All-Stars), other parents outside of the Swim Team Board members will need to step up to coordinate meet volunteers, handle clerk of course and hand out shirts. Please check the sign up sheet to select your way to support our team at this combined meet. Keep an open mind...although some are harder than others, no job is pure torture, we will help you through it, and thankfully there are many hands on deck to lighten the load. Thanks in advance for your help. (This is as 'tough love' as I get!)

On the social side, our preparations are well underway for the End of Summer Swim Banquet at the pool this Sat. night, 7/24/21 starting at 6pm. All swimmers (yes, this includes Little Flippers) and their immediate family are invited to attend. NOTE, this is a catered event so coordinator, Vi Sagaow needs every family to respond to the evite request from Kuan sent to all primary member emails in the system on 7/12 by no later than Tues., 7/20 so we have enough food and places to sit. If you don't have the evite email, please let Vi know asap ([email protected])

Some of you have asked about the banquet attire. Shocker-- for the first Saturday since June, I will be wearing something other than our fab SHARKS t-shirts on deck. Actually, it's kinda fun to see our swimmers dressed up and capless...I am always amazed at what our kids look like out of pool-mode.

Finally, a quick update on winter swim and team rep/board/volunteer positions for next season.

We still don't have the results of the lane lottery for Winter Swim yet. Final plug...we started this years ago as a great way for the kids to keep the momentum going from their summer swim experience, work on their current and expand their stroke competencies and keep exercising to build cardio endurance for swim as well as other sports. Swimmers must have two legal times in at least two strokes to be eligible.

We need two parent volunteers to step up as WINTER swim team reps for the Sept through May weekly sessions. (My kids will not be at winter swim so I can't be there each week). These parents will stay at the practice location during the 1 hour timeframe, help facilitate any social activities in lieu of practice (including the every popular neighborhood winter carolling event) and also get first peek at next season's swimmer swag. (an aside, it doesn't mean you have to be ongoing team rep, this is just for the winter session). Please see Tracy or Sheliah if you are able to serve in this volunteer capacity; this can count as your family's season volunteer commitment for 2022! In the coming week, we will also provide an overview of the board positions and volunteer opportunities for the 2021-2022 season. More to come.

Looking forward to a great week of practice, lots of Personal Bests at Divisionals and seeing you all at the banquet.
