You are receiving this email because you are an adult member of USA Swimming whose Athlete Protection Training (APT) expires in August or September 2021.

The USA Swimming learning management system, LEARN, is experiencing technical difficulties preventing our members from renewing their APT prior to their expiration dates. Given the current issues and the new membership year commencing on September 1, USA Swimming will be providing an extension of this requirement for you until September 30, 2021. We fully expect the system to be operational by that time and will send you a follow-up communication when you are able to go in and renew your APT. New Changes in the LSC

To Georgia swimming coaches and meet hosts,

Our new fiscal year and budget will start on October 1, 2021 and so will the new sanction fee of 7%. All meets that will be held in September will still be under last year's budget and the 2% policy. Meets from October 1, 2021 will then be under the 7% policy, which was passed by the House of Delegates on August 28, 2021 with the new budget.

If your meet has already been sanctioned and hosting after October 1 will been set to the new sanction fee of 7%.

Thanks,
Karl Krug

Zone Team Open Water Information
Georgia Swimming Family,

This year we have altered the selection process for the Open Water Zone Team just a little. In hopes of helping kids to get more Open Water experience before the Zone Meet, Georgia swimming will be holding an open water qualifying race. The race will be held September 12th at Lake Park, Georgia (This is near Valdosta, GA).  At the race the top spot for each gender and age group (for which they will be competing at the zone meet, please see qualifying age information below) will automatically secure their spot on the team for the upcoming Zone Meet to be held in 2022.

All Open Water Qualifying races will offer 8 spots for the Open Water Zone team. One each of the top times for each gender and prospective age group for the 2022 races.

Qualifying Time Period
Qualifying period is just this 2021 long course season through 2021-22 short course season. No specific meets.

Qualifying Age Information
The FINA age-up date is December 31 of the competition year (2022), which means that even though the Southern Zone Open Water race will take place in early-mid 2022, they will be competing with how old they are on December 31, 2022. If your swimmer will be 11-12 by Dec. 31, 2022, they will have to swim the 1 mile swim, if they will be 13-14, 15-16, or 17 & over by Dec 31, 2022 they will have to swim the 3.5 mile swim to qualify for the Zone team.

Selection Process
 1. To help us in the selection process we are asking that you sign up for the race first HERE
 2. After registering, please fill out this form, letting us know you have signed up for the race and are wanting to be considered for the Zone team
 3. At the race, Georgia Swimming will have a check in area for all swimmers trying to qualify. The staff will write down their official race numbers (given by the event) and will then collect their official times as they come in alongside the race officials.
4. All Open Water Qualifying races will offer 8 spots for the Open Water Zone team. One each of the top times for each gender and prospective age group using the Age as of December 31, 2022
5. The remaining spots for each age group will be selected on highest power points in the 800m, 1500m, 1000y, 1650y for 13 & over; and 400m, 800m, 1500m, 500y, 1000y, 1650y for 11-12.

Disability Swimmer Qualification
Last few years were the first years selecting disability swimmers to participate in the Open Water Zone meet, and although the Open Water Competition was cancelled for 2019, we are committed to offering this opportunity to our disability swimmers. As we are the first LSC offering this opportunity for disability athletes and this will be the first year for them competing in the competition we will be offering 2 spots for male athletes, and 2 spots for female athletes.

These spots will be decided at the same time as the second half of the team 2-3 months prior to the Open Water Zone Competition.

Due to the nature of Open Water Swimming, we will be requiring that all disability athletes applying for Open Water Zone must have Open Water experience. We encourage all Georgia Swimming athletes to participate in the qualifier race, as this is great experience, as well as the Zone Staff will be present at the Competition.

These spots will be offered to the swimmers with the highest power points in their prospective age groups

The first race to qualfy for next years Open Water Zones is next month in Lake Park, Georgia.

THE AGE UP DATE FOR OPEN WATER ZONES IS 12.31.2022

If you have not started to use the Member Data Validation process, please do so now. This will help keep information current and correct. Sometimes, information does get scrambled or incorrect addresses never updated.

The Member Data Validation Service (MDVS) for clubs provides for integrating club databases hosted by third-party swim team management software vendors with the USA Swimming member database called SWIMS.  The goal of the service is to improve the quality of data for both the club and USA Swimming.

Depending on the vendor implementation, it provides club registrars with the ability to compare the information in their member database with the information in SWIMS to ensure they are in sync with each other.

About the Book

In Breaking Free, McKenzie tells how she finds strength through swimming, despite the limited expectations placed on her by having osteogenesis imperfecta, or brittle bone disease. With her graceful freestyle stroke and never-quit attitude, McKenzie breaks through the barriers of disability and lives a life of hope on the Paralympic stage and beyond.

Georgia Swimming College Commits
Help us celebrate our recent college commits!
Congrats and good luck with your future careers! If you have a recent commit, please email them along with a picture to [email protected] with the name and college and they will be posted and shared in future newsletters.

The new short course season is already underway, but it is still early, so we wanted to share some beginning of the season tips for our Georgia athletes and parents. It is important that at the beginning of a new season that swimmers establish their goals, work hard, and eat well--balanced meals.

Here are some tips for parents and swimmers to keep in mind at the beginning of the new season:

  • Develop a great routine of habits early on so that these habits become second nature
  • Make sure to get plenty of sleep
  • Allow yourself time for recovery
  • Eat plenty of nutrients and well-balanced meals early on
  • Keep a positive attitude with your teammates and surround yourself with supportive friends
  • Work on technique and any weaker elements of your strokes
  • Focus on the details: turns, push-offs, starts, etc
