Fall Kickoff

Congratulations to the 45 swimmers who competed in the first meet of short course season! CAST had plenty of best times and terrific performances, just the sort of start we want to kick off the year. Below are some (but not all of) the highlights from the weekend!

Special recognition needs to go to Anders Misner, Archer Seeds, and Olivia Pitsch for taking the plunge and competing in their first meet! Anders had a terrific 100 freestyle to just touch out second place, while Olivia knocked out a fantastic 50 breast and led off a relay. Archer swam 5 great races capped by a third place finish in the 50 fly! Great job to you all on the start of your competitive careers!

Trace Bennett had a clean sweep, dropping time in 7 events and winning each one in a dominating performance over the rest of the field. Eli Shaw torched the 11-12 boys division, winning the 100 IM, 50 fly, and 100 fly while adding second places in the 50 breast, 50 free and 50 back. Maggie Sobek continues to terrify the rest of the 10 and under girls, with 6 wins and one second place en route to all best times. Emily Kariotis was one of our busiest swimmers, taking on 10 individual events plus a relay; despite the crowded schedule, she still had 6 best times and some of the best underwater work in the building!

Owen Bennett dropped in all 9 of his events, highlighted by a 3rd place in the 500 free. Bostyn Shoemaker was a big factor in our domination of the 11-12 girls division, garnering 3 second places and dropping huge amounts of time in all 9 of her races! Macey Yancey showed just how far she’s come, dropping 15 or more seconds in 5 different races, a testament to the work she’s put in over just the last 6 months! Dawson Cushman demonstrated that he would be a force to be reckoned with in the fly and breast events, garnering second place in the 100 breast and 6th in the 50 fly and 50 breast. Chloe Bourland came alive on day 2, dropping time in 3 events just that day with a sterling 11 second drop in the 100 fly. Sam Curtis showed off some great racing acumen and awareness all weekend, and took 6th place in the 100 breast thanks to a 13 second drop. Jace Voeller had lots to smile about with phenomenal swims and drops from start to finish, but my favorite was the sub-1:30 100 breast. Quinn Taylor swam a bevy of great races, highlighted by a win in her first ever 400 IM in a terrific time of 5:16 that will only get faster as she races it more!

Emmersyn Haley dropped time all over the place, but her signature swim was a win and half second drop in the 50 freestyle. Michael Olsen continues to impress in the sprint events, with a 3rd place finish in the 50 free and a 4th place in the 100 breast in the 15+ boys division. Jackson Oswald knocked his first ever 200 yard breast out of the park with a sub 3:00 swim and a 3rd place finish. Ellie Ruth showed off her racing chops, placing top 6 in all 5 of her individual events highlighted by second in the 200 IM. Tillie Sobek shaved off time in every event, highlighted by a 1:00 drop in the 500 free and smashing through the 6:00 mark. Andrew Davis finished a strong meet with a terrific 500 free, dropping over a minute and placing 4th. Dallin Stephens continues to improve his stroke work and it showed up especially in the 200 IM with a 46 second drop and the 500 free with over a minute drop in time. Finally, Avery Bennett won the 50 free while dropping nearly 30 seconds.

Great job to ALL our swimmers-everyone had races to be proud of and we are so excited for the upcoming season. This was a fun and fast start, now let’s keep it rolling!
