Hollyburn Team Meet Review

Our swimmers competed for the first time this season over the weekend with tremendous results! Our first team meet involved swimmers in Swim Academy and Monsoon followed by a distance swim meet for our more experienced swimmers in Tsunami, Typhoon and Pursuit. This was a great starting point of the season with so many positives to build on for future competitions!

Swim Academy and Monsoon Team Meet
Our young swimmers learnt the basics of how to move through a swim meet with a great team activation, group warm-ups, pre-race talks, post-race debriefs and what to do behind the blocks. All of this will make the next meet so much easier and allow them to concentrate more on each event.
They swam backstroke and freestyle events that emphasized the skills the swimmers have been working on in practice, particularly with the 25m Backstroke Kick and 25m Freestyle Kick. Their kick events were very impressive with tight streamlines, good body position and really strong kick through the entire 25 meters!
A special congratulations to the 13 swimmers who competed for the first time! Way to go Ryan A, Chelsea, Chloe, Ella, Beau, Kyle, London, Nicolas, Ethan, Amelia, Olivia W, Leonardo and Timothy!

Tsunami, Typhoon and Pursuit Swim Meet
The competition for our older swimmers focused on a distance freestyle event either the 400m, 800m or 1500m Freestyle and a 200m Backstroke for each swimmer. These have been the foundation of our practices as we started the season, focusing on body position, stroke length, kick strength and making the swimming as efficient as possible. The swimmers did a great job with many best times, which is harder to do at this point of the season for our older athletes with multiple races of each event under their belt. This meet was their first step towards racing this season. The swimmers did a great job of maintaining pace through their distance events and finishing strong in their 200m Backstroke. These events will set up the next few weeks of training to improve race speed.
We had a number of important firsts as Cameron, Calais, Lily, Kareena, Natalie Yi and Ryan Z all raced their first 400m Freestyle and 200m Backstroke events! We also had Ashton, Brooke, Thea, Alessandra and Rafael racing their first 1500m Freestyle!
