News from Calgary Cascade Speed Meet

Hello,

LASC had 11 swimmers that travelled to Calgary this past weekend. There were a combination of National and National 1 swimmers representing our club.

Coach Owen was there and wanted to share his thoughts about the meet...

Hi LASC families! This past weekend, we had a small group of athletes attend the Cascade Speed Meet in Calgary. The athletes definitely had some nerves about competing in a pool outside of the University of Lethbridge after two years. They impressed me by overcoming those nerves and swimming well despite some challenging circumstances. Some athletes had less than 5 minutes between events, had to navigate swimming in a foreign pool without their regular coach, swimming both prelims and finals, and competing against more athletes than they have in quite some time. While some of our first morning swims were a little bit shaky, our athletes rose to the occasion as the meet went on and posted some great results on both days of the competition. It was a pleasure to coach this group, and I look forward to some more racing in November!

There were some top 3 swims throughout the group. Makena Wood (200IM), Lola O'Brien (50BR), Daniel Alexander (200FR) and Taylor Ginther (50BK) were able to bring home some hardware for their efforts!

A Provincial Champs qualifying time standard was achieved. Daniel Alexander posted a 2:07.00 in his 200m freestyle. Great job Daniel!

Overall a great weekend! Keep up the hard work!
