PLSAS Staff and Families,

Earlier this month we communicated that our district’s Safe Learning Plan was updated to include universal masking for all students, staff and visitors who are in school buildings, regardless of vaccination status. We continue to see sharp increases in Scott County COVID-19 case rates and, despite the shortened school week, a high number of student case rates continue to be reported. As a result, we are extending the mask requirement through at least Winter Break, which begins December 23.

At this point, we are planning for our schools to remain In-Person Learning; however, the PLSAS COVID-19 Incident Command Team continues to monitor case rates and staffing closely and has studied options for contingency plans in case a learning model change is needed.

  • Contingency plans could include moving classrooms, buildings or the entire district into Distance Learning.
  • Additionally, depending on needs, we could implement Distance Learning through a rotation, by building.
  • As a proactive measure, we encourage families to have a plan in place should any of our classrooms or schools need to move to Distance Learning.

Please know that In-Person Learning for students is our priority and we will keep our schools open as long as we are safely able to do so.

Be well,

Teri Staloch, Ed. D.
Superintendent
