YMCA Swim Official Certification Online Classes Offered Dec . 7-9

The Pacific Region YMCA will be offering online certification classes for USA Swimming officials to become YMCA certified officials December 7-9. Classes will cover YMCA Swim Officials Level 1, YMCA Swim Officials Level 2, and Admin Official. Trainers will include Earl Long and Dave Baer.

  • The cost of each class would be $45 per person.
  • Each courses last 2-3 hours.
  • Each person must pass the course certification test upon completion of the course.
  • Would need confirmation the person attending the class is at least 21 years of age and associated with a recognized YMCA Swim Team. This can be accomplished by receipt of an email from the YMCA’s branch executive, aquatics director, or swim team head coach.

 

Hello, YMCA Northwest Region:

This email is an invitation to attend YMCA Swim Official classes in early December 2021. There will be three different classes taught on-line through Zoom.  The start time for each class will be 6:30 p.m. Pacific Coast Time (7:30 p.m. Mountain Time or 5:30 p.m. Alaska Time.)

These classes are open to individuals who:

  • Have no prior experience as a swim official.  These individuals can take with the Level 1 or Administrative Official class.
  • Are experienced YMCA officials who wish to recertify their credentials,
  • Are experience YMCA officials who want to obtain one of the other types of credentials, or
  • Are United State Swimming Association Swimming (USA-S) officials who want to obtain a YMCA credential.

Only individuals who are at least 21 years of age and associated with a recognized YMCA swim team are eligible to enroll in these classes.

The classes will occur as follows:

Tuesday, December 7, 2021, YMCA Level I Swim Official class

  • Course Description

This course is designed to train participants as swim officials for the YMCA of the USA’s Competitive Swimming Program in the areas of Stroke and Turn Judge, Relay Take-off Judge, Place Judge, and Timer. The course focuses on the specific duties and responsibilities of the above officials prior to, during and after a swim meet. The course also reviews the facilities requirements for a meet, swimmer eligibility, and the roles of Chief Judge, Starter, and Referee. Successful completion of a written examination is required to pass the course.

  • Prerequisites

Aside from the age requirement and association with a recognized YMCA swim team, there are not any other prerequisites to attend this class.

Course participants intending to use this program to recertify as YMCA Level I officials must provide documentation that they have served as an official at a minimum of 12 meet sessions over the prior three-year certification period.

Wednesday, December 8, 2021, YMCA Level II Swim Official class

  • Course Description

This course is designed to certify or recertify participants as swim officials for the YMCA of the USA’s Competitive Swimming Program in the areas of Referee, Starter, and Chief Judge. The course focuses on the specific duties and responsibilities of the above officials prior to, during and after a swim meet. The course also reviews the facilities and staffing requirements for a meet, rules for swimming various strokes, matters relating to eligibility and other key roles of the official. Successful completion of a written examination is required to pass the course.

Prerequisites

In addition to the age requirement and association with a recognized YMCA swim team, the other prerequisite is - be fully certified as a YMCA Level I or USA-S official for at least one year. In addition, they must provide a copy of their YMCA Level I Certification or USA-S Official’s card and documentation that they have served a minimum of 8 sessions as a fully certified YMCA and/or USA-S Swim Official.

Course participants intending to use this program to recertify as YMCA Level II officials must provide documentation that they have served as an official at a minimum of 12 meet sessions over the prior three-year certification period.

Thursday, December 9, 2021, YMCA Administrative Official class

  • Course Description

This course is designed to certify administrative (dry deck) swim officials for the YMCA of the USA’s Competitive Swimming Program. The course focuses on the specific duties and responsibilities of the Administrative Swim Official prior to, during and after a meet. The course also briefly reviews for the participants the facilities and staffing requirements for a meet, including matters relating to eligibility to participate in and entry into the meet. Successful completion of a written examination is required to pass the course.

  • Prerequisites

Aside from the age requirement and association with a recognized YMCA swim team, there are not any other prerequisites to attend this class.

Course participants intending to use this program to recertify as YMCA Administrative Officials must provide documentation that they have served as an Administrative Official at a minimum of 12 meet sessions over the prior three-year certification period.

Cost

The registration fee of any of these classes is $45.  Instructions for paying the registration fee will be send to you after you complete the on-line registration.
