Our club and the pool referendum

Next Tuesday, Nov. 23, is the deadline to vote in the city's referendum on the proposed new pool.

The city is asking residents for permission to borrow $10 million to finance the project.

The Yellowknife Polar Bear Swim Club supports the new pool. We've already seen increased downtime for maintenance of our current pool, which is nearing the end of its lifespan. A new pool will provide an opportunity for our club to grow, for our community to benefit from increased public swims and swimming lessons, and for our club to contribute to the community by producing lifeguards and other much-needed pool staff.

Who can vote?

All Canadian citizens who are over 18 and have lived in Yellowknife for the past 12 months are eligible to vote.

By now, you should have received a mail-in ballot. If you did not get one but you are eligible to vote, you can still cast a ballot at the Multiplex or the Tree of Peace on Tuesday, Nov. 23rd from 10 am to 7 pm.

City council has pledged its support for the new pool and there is broad support in our city, but we don't know how the vote will turn out. Please talk to your friends and neighbours about how important this project is to our club -- and make sure they vote yes!
