November 17, 2021
Well it has been a very busy November so far. With meets in Holland and West Zeeland, we have had the most Breakers attend meets in our programs history. Thanks for traveling and making this happen for your kiddos!! It is a big family commitment, and like we saw last weekend, the weather can be challenging.
The past two meets has made for very busy pool deck for swimmers and coaching staff. I appreciate all the dedicated attention that our coaches give every swimmer. Between writing events on arms and heats and lanes, mask wearing reminders and keeping our kids engaged and arriving to the blocks on time is chaotic but they handle it with grace. A big thanks to all of them.
Please remember that our youngest of swimmers and even our experienced swimmers are faced with disqualifications, otherwise known as DQ's. We are a sport where the varied nuances of every stroke, turn, start etc...can be overwhelming. The swimming rulebook is about 50 pages long.
I must remind you, let the swimmers learn that a DQ is not the end of the world. It happens to everyone and as an Olympian said in one of our clinics..." thank the men and women in white for making you a better swimmer!" There are times we will correct something in practice 10 x , they go to a meet and still make mistakes. Best learning out there!! They need to forge on!
That being said...a happy swimmer, swims fast... and showing good sportsmanship is crucial to each swimmer's role as a member of the Breaker family.
Please check your swimmer's google calendar especially around holidays. We do not swim on Thanksgiving Day nor the day after. We will send out emails about winter break as well.
If you see any mistakes on the google calendar please reach out asap to Kathy.
Apparel from Making Waves:
I know alot of you are still waiting for many items. If it is Speedo brand related, they went thru a merger and it was not as streamlined as they hoped. Please reach out the Making Waves Store in Berkely for any questions regarding your specific orders. I am sorry, I don't have any of those details to help you. Call 231-591-4176
Covid. Flus. Colds. Stomach aches. Please do not send your swimmer to the pool if they are sick, have a fever or a cough. PLease monitor this. I certainly do appreciate your communication regarding your swimmer's health if it is Covid related. We do not share this information with anyone.
Cancelling practice due to weather
With inclement weather we don't follow TCAPS when it closes. If the YMCA closes I will send out an email blast. Always use your best judgment!! and drive safely and don't rush.
Lastly, MEETs coming up in January.
NO meet entries have been posted for January yet. While I send email blasts, you can always check the meet page and see if it is open.
We have 2 YMCA Meets, one, a dual meet at Cadillac January 8th and our home meet January 29&30th.( an invite with about 100 swimmers from other YMCA teams plus our team)
These local meets are great, especially for our newest swimmers. I would like the Cadillac meet to involve most of our newer swimmers and any girls hs who need the 3rd meet for Championship season requirements.
For the Great Lakes tropical Challenge, mid January, we will look at the meet packet and then determine what groups will be allowed to go. Right now, the A & B groups and the more experienced competitive swimmers from C to go to this one. I will keep you posted.
If at any time you need to reach out please do. I wish you all a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving.
And in Breakers spirit, have an Attitude of Gratitude each day....every day.
