Congratulations to Summer Jones!

 Turkey Trot Distance Meet

Several Hurricanes competed in the Turkey Trot Distance Meet last night at Sachem High School with outstanding results.  There were some enormous time drops by all and the crowning glory came in the last and longest event of the evening.  Summer Jones swam a personal best in the 1650 free in 18:06.98, which qualifies here for the Senior Metropolitan Championships AND is a new team record!  Her time replaces the record of 18:50.86 set in 2016 by Maggie Purcell (currently a stand-out swimmer at the University of Richmond).  Way to go, Summer!!!

The other best times were:

400 IM:  Daisy Pitches and Tenzin Tamang

500 free: Nicky Chavez, Liam Knight, Ben Kriegsman, Miles Menu, Lylah Metz, Ariel Ruggiero, and Sarah Spanburgh.

These swims were all swum with a lot of heart and these athletes attacked these long races with confidence.  The "True Grit" award goes to Ariel, who had goggle issues in his first attempt at the 500, but did not give up and swam hard between multiple attempts to fix the goggles.  Things do not always go as planned in a race, but having the grit to swim at 100% effort despite mishaps shows the heart of a champion.

Way to go, Hurricanes!!
