Adam England Memorial Fall Splash

Congratulations to all Croc swimmers who swam last weekend in the Adam England Memorial Fall Splash meet! It was a jam-packed weekend with 330 athletes competing at our first full-scale indoor invitational meet in over a year and a half. CAST had 88 athletes in attendance, and brought a TON of energy and fun to the pool. Special thanks to all the volunteers who made the meet possible!

Our first shoutout is to Kamryn Braga, Sam Granier, and Dylan Gardner on completing their first swim meet! Great job to all of you taking the plunge into competition-the first of many I hope!

Maggie Sobek took down a pair of team records, besting the team’s 9-10 girls 200 back and 200 fly marks, while Jake Sachtjen’s 1000 free vaulted him into 9th place on the CAST all-time performers list. Three swimmers made first time qualifying cuts for the prestigious Age Group Sectional Championship meet in March (that we are hoping actually happens this year after missing the last 2 years!): Tillie Sobek in the 200 fly, Eli Shaw in the 100 fly, and Bostyn Shoemaker in the 100 breast. Both Bostyn and Eli will have to make the standards for the next age group as they have birthdays before March, but should be extremely proud to make those time cuts-they’re incredibly fast!

While we had too many great swims to name, a sampling of swimmers who really hit it out of the park include: Karsten Towery’s 8 best times, while the coaches racked their brains trying to remember someone who has improved as rapidly as she has in the past 9 months; Andrew Davis’ sub-30 50 freestyle, sub 2:30 200 back, and his 8 other best times; Macey Yancey’s 7 best times highlighted by a 13 second improvement in the 200 IM in just the last month; George Lavy’s massive cuts all over the place, the best being a 25 second drop in the 100 breast to nab 8th place; Zach Linford’s 200 fly and 200 back getting way down into the low 2:20’s and netting 3rd and 6th place respectively; Belle Taylor’s brand new slate of events, completing her first 400 IM, 200 back, 200 IM in great initial times, and then dropping 40 seconds in her 100 breast; Elijah Brown lowering his best 200 free time by 30+ seconds and scoring 5th place, among a bunch of other huge best times; Cassie Chaffin and her competitive acumen, scoring first place in the 25 fly despite having never raced it before; Nina Emry’s whole meet, but particularly the 27.4 50 free she split on the 11-12 girls relay; Chance Seed’s amazingly fast freestyle events and his terrific improvement in the fly and breast events; and Eleanor Strow’s fantastic 200 breast and the best times across the board.

Thanks to everyone who made posters, cheered on their teammates, counted for the distance events, and volunteered. Have a great Thanksgiving holiday!
