Swimmers Excel at Snowflake Meet

It was another incredible weekend of swimming at the Bergen Barracudas’ Snowflake Meet at Rutgers University. Our swimmers joined hundreds of others from 16 different teams in what turned out to be a busy but successful weekend in the Sonny Werblin pools for all. Our ‘Cudas earned Personal Bests, Top Places, State cuts, set new records, and more.

Despite the stiff competition, our swimmers finshed in top places throughout the meet, including 20 Top-3 finishes. Reese Berg was on a roll with a 2nd Place finish in the 100 Breast and a 3rd in the 50 Breast. Zach Bezold proved he was the man to beat in the Breaststroke, earning 1st Place in the 100 Breast and a 2nd in the 200. Jonathan Kern continues to chase down his 10&Under competitors, swimming 3rd Places 100 Free, 100 IM, 50 Back, 50 Free, and his 2nd in the 50 Free. Nathaniel Kern continues to be a force-to-be-reckoned-with in the 11-12 realm, swimming FOUR 1st Places in the 100 Fly, 100 Free, 100 IM, 50 Fly, and 2nd Places in the 200 IM, 50 Back, 50 Breast, and 50 Free. There were many other great finishes, as well.

In a validation of their hard-work this season, 92 of our 148 splashes (over 60%) were Personal Best times! Some of these were sizeable drops like swims by Rylee Bambara (-10.72 in the 50 Breast); Reese Berg (-12.03 in the 200 IM); Ty Hollar (-11.59 in the 200 Free); Jonathan Kern (-28.99 in the 200 Free); Will Tagliareni (-12.07 in the 100 Breast and -18.73 in the 200 Breast); and Evan Weinberger (-13.80 in the 200 Breast).

Our 12&Under NJB records were re-imagined with 18 new times being set by Jonathan Kern (100 IM, 50 Free, 100 Free, 200 Free, 50 Back, 100 Back, 50 Fly and 50 Breast); Reese Berg (50 Breast, 100 Breast, 50 Fly); and Nathaniel Kern (100 Free, 50 Back, 50 Breast, 50 Fly, 100 Fly, 100 IM, 200 IM).

While NJ Swimming continues to find venues, hosts, and dates for the upcoming championship season, the qualifying times are established. Depending upon those meet dates and swimmers’ aging-up, we had a bunch of qualifying times swum for either JOs or Senior Opens earned by Reese Berg (50 Free, 100 Free, 50 Breast, 100 Breast 50 Fly, 100 IM); Zach Bezold (100 & 200 Breast); Jonathan Kern (50 Free, 100 Free, 200 Free, 50 Back, 100 Back, 50 Fly, 100 IM); and Nathaniel Kern (50 Free, 100 Free, 50 Back, 50 Fly, 100 Fly, 100 IM, 200 IM).

Congrats to all!  (Complete RESULTS)

Next up we have a few of our qualifying swimmers competing at the Holiday Classic Prelims/Finals sessions next weekend, then we travel north for the Winter Classic on January 8-9…
