13-14 Year Old PNS Winter Champs Recap

This past weekend, the Sharks were represented by Liam, William, Gaby, and Clara at the 13-14 year old PNS Winter Championships. Admittedly, a rather small group of athletes, but one full of might! They were unintimidated by the atmosphere and were more than ready to rise to the occasion!

The athletes had some great performances, and I want to highlight each Shark in turn -

Liam Cotter - 13:

Liam had a great weekend, posting new personal bests in 5 out of his 6 swims. Liam’s biggest drop came in the 400 IM (-7.38 seconds!!) and was also his highest finish, at 32nd place!

William Forrest - 14:

William brought one stroke to the Championships and displayed growth in all distances! William earned personal best times in the 50, 100, and 200 breaststroke! William’s top finish came in the 50 breast, at 34th place.

Gaby Lopez - 13:

Gaby had a full weekend, showcasing her versatility by swimming 6 events in a variety of strokes and distances. From the 50 free to the 400 IM, Gaby displayed grit and the competitive spirit as she participated in her first Championship meet in the Northwest. Gaby’s top finish came in the 400 IM, where she ended up placing 31st, and her top-drop came from the 200 IM, where she shaved 5.52 seconds from her previous best!

Clara Patterson - 14:

Clara had a stellar meet, posting 5/5 best times and qualifying for finals in all of her races! What most impressed me was Clara’s ability to stay focused throughout the long competition days and by bettering each of her prelims performances in finals! That is not easy!! Clara’s top finish was in the 50 back, where she came away with an 8th place finish.

Congrats to all the Sharks! We are looking forward to continuing the Championships with the 15 and over this coming weekend.
