Current UPAC COVID Guidance

The UPAC Sharks follow the guidance of our local health department, the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department, in our response to COVID-19 at our practices and hosted events. We understand that guidelines differ from location to location and can change quickly. Please use the resources below as reference.  You will find a matrix here, based on local guidance (as of 1/9/22), that we believe to be best practices for our membership.

While we are not currently required by PNS or WA DOH to require vaccination or negative testing, we encourage all of our families to follow WA DOH guidance on quarantine and isolation in order to ensure we can keep our swimmers in the water. Additionally, as of right now (01/9/22), we will not be checking vaccination status or negative testing status for return to sport so encourage all families to be responsible in their actions and protect those around you.

Please note that while swimming is considered a low-risk sport, athletes are at a higher risk of exposure while unmasked and during rest periods in the water, when their faces are above the surface of the water. We would like to remind all athletes and their families to:
- Properly wear a mask at all times except when preparing to enter the water, or immediately after exiting the water.
- Socially distance as much as possible, whenever possible.
- Continue to monitor for symptoms and stay home if sick.
Thank you for your continued efforts to create a safe and healthy swim environment for our Sharks!
