Background Checks for New Members

Effective January 10, 2022 USA Swimming requires non-athletes to be registered in the SWIMS database prior to initiating a background check. Background checks can take anywhere from two to 10 business days to clear, possibly longer if a person has lived in New York or California. Please plan accordingly.
This change only applies to new non-athlete members who have never been registered with USA Swimming in the past. Anyone who has been a member of USA Swimming previously and has a member record in the SWIMS database (athlete or non-athlete) can initiate a background check at any time.
