Congratulations to the 46 swimmers who travelled to Moscow for the 2022 Inland Empire Junior Olympics! This is our team’s championship meet for the short course season, and we had a wonderful showing with plenty of great swims. Especially noteworthy were our finals performances-our kids swam hard after a long, grueling weekend at the pool and almost always swam faster when it counted! CAST finished third overall in the team scoring, missing second place by just a handful of points.
CAST had two high point winners for the weekend. Trace Bennett won 7 of his 8 races to dominate the top spot for the 9-10 boys, while Tillie Sobek placed first 5 times to secure the most points for the 11-12 girls. Maggie Sobek was runner up in the 9-10 girls category with a pair of individual event victories, and a team record in the 200 yard freestyle. We had 4 other individual event champions in Erin Griffith, Camryn Schmidt, Bostyn Shoemaker, and Trista Slife.
Two of our senior swimmers achieved a big milestone by notching their first ever Senior Sectional qualifying cuts; Zack Castaneda in the 50 freestyle and Trista Slife in the 100 and 200 breaststrokes. Both will get to represent CAST at the prestigious meet in 2 weeks in Arizona along with 5 other Croc qualifiers!
Finally, 4 of our swimmers achieved 100% best times at the meet: Trace Bennett, Nina Emry, Reagan Greiner, and Eleanor Strow. Great job finishing the season with a perfect slate!
