Great job to the 44 swimmers who attended the Shamrock Shakeup in Spokane this past weekend! This was the last short course meet of the season for all these swimmers, and we had a fun, fast weekend celebrating how far our athletes have come over the past 7 months.
Our shoutouts have to start with the 3 team records that fell on Friday night. This is one of the rare meets where our younger swimmers have the chance to compete in the distance races, and they made the most of it! Trace Bennett crushed the 9-10 boys 500 freestyle record by 16 seconds, Maggie Sobek lowered her own 9-10 girls 500 record by 8 seconds, and Adeline Downing took down Maggie’s old 8 and under girls record by a whopping 22 seconds! Tillie Sobek had a terrific swim that night as well, earning her first ever top-10 performer time in the 1650 freestyle.
Props go to Dylan Gardner, Ethan Harrell, Sam Harrell, Olivia Pitsch, Lorelai Renner, Ellie Ruth, Clara Strow, Eleanor Strow, and Jace Voeller for going 100% best times in their events!
Many other swimmers had notable performances, but here are a few highlights: Ethan Abbott's return to club competition, particularly the 2:26 200 IM he led off with; Ryder Colhoff’s 9 second drop in his 50 free; Hank Crow’s terrific 100 IM (a full 10 second drop!); Everly Descanic’s first ever 500, under 6:30 and first for the 11-12 girls; Ethan Harrel’s thoughtful stroke improvement to help him drop in the 100 breast and 100 free; Michaela Richard’s blazing fast sub-20 second 25 back to claim first place; and Karsten Towery’s mental toughness, bouncing back from some early setbacks and lighting up her day 3 events. Thanks to all our athletes for competing so hard and doing a great job supporting their teammates by cheering all weekend long!
