Our short course season concluded last week with the highest level meet for our kids, Speedo Senior Sectionals. Normally held in Federal Way, WA, this year our kids got the opportunity to travel to Phoenix, Arizona and swim outdoors! Our athletes swam 3 to 6 races over the course of the 4 day competition.
Leading the charge was Riley Taylor, who capped off a terrific season with a best time and 10th fastest performance in team history in the 200 fly, and a best time and top performer mark in the 400 IM. She made finals in those two races along with the 200 back, with 19th place in the 200 fly as her top finish. Zack Castaneda absolutely destroyed the 100 breast, with his first top-10 performer swim in his first sectional level meet! He also had a best time with a smartly swum 200 freestyle. Gabby Garasky dropped in her 100 fly in prelims and again in finals with the 8th and 9th fastest performances in team history, finishing 19th in the meet. Gabby also made finals in the 100 back with the 7th fastest performance in team history! Mason Groth had a terrific drop in his 100 breast in his first ever sectional level meet, and was right at his bests in the 100 free and 100 fly. Mason has recently discovered a real knack for the 100 breast, which will be a powerful tool in his kit next year in college! Kathryn Gyde was just off her best times all weekend, but had a terrific 200 breaststroke on Saturday and made finals in the 100 breast, finishing 21st. Kathryn took out her races like a champ all week with superb speed! Trista Slife made her qualifying cuts for Sectionals just a few weeks before at Junior Olymipcs. While she didn’t improve on her great times from JO’s, she gained valuable racing experience at her first ever sectional level meet!
