GREAT JOB AT 2022 FAR WESTERN CHAMPS!
Congratulations to our
7 VJO swimmers that qualified and competed in the 2022
Far Western Championships in Morgan Hill on April 7-10th. Our
seven swimmers; Juliana Bondoc (11
yrs),
Logan Brough (16yrs), Raffy
Cueva (14 yrs), Anna Efe (12yrs), Alex Grant
(15), Mackenzie Kawashiri (16yrs) and Olivia Pettit
(15yrs) represented our team well, while
competing against the best swimmers in the western United States.
Our swimmers competed against other teams from Colorado, Nevada,
New Mexico, Hawaii, Arizona, Washington, Texas and of course
California. For those of you that dont know this is one of the
fastest Age Group meets in the Nation. We had 7 new team
records set, one first time ever Sectional time achieved and a
couple new Far Western times achieved. Many of our swimmer
finaled (placed in the top 16) and made it back to be able to
compete again in the evening against the top swimmers. Great

NEW TEAM RECORD - OLIVIA PETTIT
15-16 200 Back & 100 Back
Congratulations to Olivia Pettit for setting a new team record in the 15-16 girls 200 back. She went a 2:08.43 dropping 4 seconds in prelims at Far Western Champs. She broke her own team record from 4 months ago, achieved a first time ever SECTIONAL TIME.
Congratulations to Olivia Pettit for also setting a new team record in the girls 15-16 100 back. She went a 59.83 at Far Westerns and finaled. This team record was originally held by Eliana Matteo in 2018. Great job Olivia! We are so proud of you!
NEW TEAM RECORD - ANNA EFE 11-12 50 Back
Congratulations to Anna Efe for setting a new team record in the 11-12 girls 50
back. At Far Western Champs she broke her own team record and went
a 29.46. Keep up the great work Anna! Go

NEW TEAM RECORD - MACKENZIE KAWASHIRI
15-16 200 fly & 500 Free
Congratulations to Mackenzie Kawashiri for setting a new team
record in the girls 15-16 200 fly. She went a 2:11.40 at Far
Westerns, finishing 8th and finaling. This was an 8 year old team
record originally held by Alyssa Powell. Great job Mackenzie! We
are so proud of you!
Congratulations to Mackenzie Kawashiri for also setting a new
team record in the girls 15-16 500 free. She went a 5:12.83 at Far
Westerns, finishing 5th and finaling. This was an 18 year old team
record originally held by Kathryn Jovino. Great job Mackenzie! We
are so proud of you!
Congratulations to Mackenzie Kawashiri for setting a new team in
the 15-16 girls 200 free. She went a 1:57.63 dropping 4 seconds in
prelims at Far Western Champs. This was a 17 year old record
originally held by Kathryn Jovino. We are very proud of you
Mackenzie. Keep up the great work! Go SHARKS!
NEW TEAM RECORD
- RAFFY CUEVA
13-14 Boys 50
Free SCY & 50 Free LCM
Congratulations to Raffy Cueva for setting a new team record in
the boys 13-14 scy 50 free. He went a 22.46 at Far Westerns,
finishing 6th and finaling. This was an 19 year old team record
originally held by Donny Mata in 2003. Great job Raffy! We are so
proud of you!
Congratulations to Raffy Cueva for setting a new 13-14 boys LCM
50 free team record. He went a 26.18 at the AC Swim Club Long
Course C/B/A meet on 4/23. He broke a 13 year old record, original
held by Ares Elmore in 2009. Great job Raffy! Keep up the hard
work!
VJO FIRST EVER EGG HUNT
- BIG HIT!
Saturday, April
2nd
On
Staurday April 2nd we held our first ever VJO Egg Hunt and it was a
huge hit! After a nice long course practice all our VJO swimmers
joined in for a fun Egg Hunt and pancake breakfast. What a great
time our swimmers had. Thank you to all our parents for putting
this together. With your help, we hope to be able to do this again
next year and make this a new VJO tradition.

4-6pm
Tomorrow Friday, April 29th the Senior and Pre-Senior Groups will
practice from 4-6pm with the Junior Group instead of 5:30-7:30pm.
We will only have around 5 SR & PSR swimmers at practice on
this day as the rest of the group will be at their high school
league championships or preparing for their high school league
championships. All other groups will swim at their regular
times on this day. Good luck to all of our high schoolers
competing at their league championships this weekend! Swim

This is a reminder to get signed up for our VJO Long Course
C/B/A+ Meet on May 20-22nd. The meet is still OPEN FOR ENTRIES, but
will fill soon. We will be hosting this meet at our very own
Cunningham Pool. All VJO swimmers are expected to enter this
meet. Parents we need your volunteer help to make this a
successful meet. Volunteer sign-ups are up online, just
click the link below to sign-up (in a couple days). We need
volunteers before the meet, after the meet and all three days of
the meet. There are over 345 swimmers signed up already,
so get signed up ASAP, so you don't miss out on this amazing
opportunity to race.

at 7:15am. We will get in as a team to
warm-up at 7:30am. The meet will begin
at 9:00am each day. Special Warm-up
lanes for 8 and under athletes will be held from 8:30 to
8:45 AM.

Hammerhead 1
& 2 Groups - All Hammerheads can enter
the freestyle (50m
and 100m) and backstroke
(50m) events. Please talk to Coach Daniel prior
to entering any other events. Do not enter your child in
events they are not ready for.
Leopard &
Mako - Please enter 3 events each day. Choose
one favorite event, one challenging event and one event to keep you
well rounded.
Junior: Please enter
one event on Friday and at least 3 events on
Sat and Sun . Athletes
may swim a max of 4 events on Sat & Sun. Choose one
favorite event, one challenging event and one event to keep you
well rounded.
Pre-Senior
& Seniors - Please enter one event on Friday
and at least 3 events on Sat and Sun. Athletes may swim a max of 4

FEE: $4.50 per event plus an $14.00 participation fee

The DART Post HS Walk On
Meet at the UC Davis Pool on Sunday, May 8th is now open for
entries. This meet
is open to all
Pre-Senior and Senior Groupers. The meet will remain
open until Saturday, May 7th at 6:00pm. Swimmers may compete in a
max of 4 events. See meet info below. Talk to Coach Jennifer if you
have any questions.
ENTER ONLINE AT: Swim
Connection
LOCATION: Schaal Aquatic Center,
Davis CA 95616. Located on UCD Campus off the corner of Hutchison
Drive and Health Science Drive. The parking lot is located adjacent
to the UCD Football stadium.
PARKING: There is a large campus
parking lot. Parking is free on Sunday.
MEET FORMAT: DART will host
a SCY session. Take a 30-minute break to switch the pool, and then
run a second LCM session.
ENTRY LIMITS: Swimmers will be
able to sign-up for a total of 4 events during the entire
meet.
ENTRIES: All swimmers will enter
using https://ome.swimconnection.com. Entries close on Saturday May
7, 2022 at 6:00 PM.
ENTRY
FEES: $14/Splash fee and $8/entry fee per event. Seeding Prelims:
Swimmers will need to pre-enter the meet on swim connection. The
meet is open to enter, until 6:00 PM on Saturday, May 7, 2022 so
athletes will have the ability to enter after HS Sections. No
changes will be made on deck the morning of the meet. Prelims will
be pre-seeded for the SCY session. Changes will be accepted for the
LCM Session until 10:00 AM.
MEET TIMES: Warmups will begin
no earlier than 7:30 AM and will conclude 10 minutes prior to the
start of the meet. The SCY meet session will start at 9:00 AM. The
LCM session is scheduled to start 45 minutes after the end of the
SCY session.

This is a reminder that VJO Team Suits and Team Caps are
mandatory at all meets. If your team suit does not fit or you
do not have one, please get a new team suit ordered ASAP. Contact
Coach Jennifer if you have any problems with your team suit for the
upcoming meet. We do have some extra slightly used team suits
that could be barrowed. Below I have included the link and info to
order a VJO team suit. See your coach to purchase a new VJO
team cap.

LONG COURSE
PRACTICE
Saturday, May
14th
On Saturday May 14th we will be having our third
long course practice of the year. The kids had a blast at our last
two long course practice, so we are looking forward to another
great long course pracice. The Senior, Pre-Senior and Junior
Groups will swim from 7:45-10am and will be turning the lane lines
around for all our other swimmers. The Hammerheads, Leopard and
Mako Groups will swim from 8:30-9:30am.

WHY ATTEND LC
PRACTICE?
This long course
practice will help our swimmers better prepare for their
upcoming long course meets. Our next long course meet will be
our home VJO C/B/A+ Meet on May 20-22. This is a great
opportunity to get used to long course swimming. For long
course swimming we will switch the lane lines around the other
direction in our pool and swim the long way (50
meters). This means 50 meters is only one length of the pool
… counting lengths is a little easier long course.
