Coach Cathy announces her retirement

Dear SCAT families,

It is with great sadness but true joy knowing Coach Cathy has earned this announcement!
Coach Cathy will be retiring at the end of this season in July.  SCAT has enjoyed her expertise and coaching since 2004!

I have had the privilege of working with Coach Cathy since 2007.  When I met Cathy, I was a summer league coach and in the following years, she coached my son.  My biggest praise has always been Cathy's ability to get athletes to do more than they ever believed they could do on their own.  I have always marveled watching her coach and seeing her swimmers excel.  Throughout her career, she never stopped learning and continued to find new drills and develop new sets or ways of doing things that encouraged her athletes to improve.  Cathy coached many swimmers to State Championships, Zone teams and created a base for them to go onto senior level and collegiate level swimming.  The behind-the-scenes things that Cathy does for the team will also be greatly missed.  Cathy has run the Peachtree City Summer League for over 15 years organizing 10 teams with 4-5 meets per week during the summer.  She added all this while she continued to coach the SCAT team members with their long course schedule.  Cathy also has great attention to details and efficiency as she handled all meet management and record keeping for SCAT.  Although we haven't hosted large invitationals since Covid, during Cathy's tenure we had seasons when SCAT hosted up to 7 meets per year at Georgia Tech including State and Sectional Championships.  It's impossible to explain the type of work, time and flexibility this job entails, I can assure you Cathy did it amazing.  When SCAT hosted meets, we were always athlete focused which meant additional work for the meet manager.  Cathy has always worked hard to make sure every swimmer got into the races they wanted, even when their entries were late and it meant additional work for her.  This is the stuff no one really sees or knows, but Cathy always went the extra mile if it meant helping a swimmer.

We know we are losing a legend as Cathy transitions into her well-earned retirement.  We hope she enjoys watching her birds out her back patio, many cruises, card games with her children and traveling the world.

We hope you each get a chance to share your own memories of Coach Cathy and let her know how she made an impact in your swimming.

We certainly wish her all the very best in her next chapter.

As we announce Cathy's retirement, we understand many are curious to know her replacement as we move forward.   We are continuing to work on staffing for the fall and we will communicate those changes in the coming weeks.  Coach Mike will be bringing his 25+ years of coaching experience to the Gold group.  He is looking forward to working with those kids and helping prep them for swimming in High School and beyond.  He will maintain coaching the National group as well.
