CAST had a terrific start to the 2022 Long Course season-in terms of performance, it was the single best first meet of long course in at least the last thirteen years! Not only did our kids perform well, but CAST was easily the loudest and most supportive team for our swimmers in the water. Despite the limitations of the pool and the cold weather on Saturday and part of Sunday, our Crocs had super attitudes from the jump!
We had an astonishing 9 team records fall over the course of the weekend, and all 3 new record holders also earned high point honors in their respective age groups! Trace Bennett is on a quest to rewrite the 9-10 boys record board, knocking out 4 just this weekend in the 400 free, 800 free, 1500 free, and 400 IM. Tillie Sobek won every race she swam and beat the 400 IM, 800 free, and 1500 freestyle team records, with the 7th fastest performer mark in the 1500 and the 10th fastest in the 800. Adeline Downing broke the 100 backstroke record and set a new mark for the 8 and under girls’ 400 freestyle, with a whole summer ahead to take them even faster! Gabby Garasky earned high point honors for the 15-16 girls thanks to her 5 first place finishes. Pema Anain was second for the 15-16 girls, and notched a top-10 performance time in the 1500 free.
Two swimmers made their competitive debuts for CAST-Kamran Rosenberger swam a trio of top-6 finishes, while his brother Keegan Rosenberger had an impressive 5 event set in his inaugural Croc meet. Great job boys, we look forward to many more competitions with you!
While we expected quite a few best times, especially from our A, B and C squad swimmers after having 10 months of training since their last long course meet, the results were even more than we could have hoped for. A whopping 39 of our 56 swimmers went all best times or all best times except in one race-simply fabulous! Shoutout to Leo Augustine, Owen Augustine, Avery Bennett, Owen Bennett, Trace Bennett, Elijah Brown, Bailey Copstead, Dawson Cushman, Adeline Downing, Nina Emry, Dylan Gardner, Hannah Gardner, Ruby Gardner, Payton Goodwin, Raegan Greiner, George Lavy, Oliver Lavy, Rachel Nicholls, Jackson Oswald, Anjali Richards, Michaela Richards, Kamran Rosenberger, Keegan Rosenberger, Ellie Ruth, Eli Shaw, Avery Shoemaker, Bostyn Shoemaker, Delaney Snell, Tillie Sobek, Clara Strow, Eleanor Strow, Sylvia Strow, Karsten Towery, Olivia Tyslau, Jace Voeller, Charlotte Wagstaff, Addison Wallace, Macey Yancey, and Taylor Young. Wow!!!!
For many of our more seasoned swimmers, this meet was about getting back into the swing of long course-and as swimmers progress, get older, and attend higher level meets and just more meets period, best times in the early season get harder to come by. But every swimmer prepared as best they could and raced hard, and our early season results were excellent, especially compared with previous years’ first long course meets. We are set up for a great summer of swimming-great job everyone on a fun and fast first meet!
