Updated Group Descriptions & Expectations
All training groups, including Senior groups, have been updated and descriptions/expectations are viewable HERE.
I am very excited to welcome Coach Abhi and Coach Ashley to the Senior group staff! Not only will this enable us to best serve our Seniors athletes, it will also allow Coach Abhi and Coach Ashley to grow and will make all of UPAC better!
Note: UPAC’s approach takes the mental aptitude, drive, and engagement of our athletes into account just as much as talent and swim meet performance. Within this system, there is inherently more subjectivity than programs that rely on strict qualifying times. We, as aquatic professionals, will continually monitor athletes as they progress further along the model. For athletes to reach their furthest potential in the pool and to be best equipped to take on life’s challenges, instruction and training should be catered to the individual and what their goals are within the sport of swimming. If, at any time, you have questions on where your athlete stands, please let myself and your group coach know. We look forward to working together to help all of our athletes grow into their best selves!
PNS Champs Qualifying Meets
As you may know, Pacific Northwest Swimming hosts 2 series of Championship meets per year - the Winter PNS Champs (short course) and the Summer PNS Champs (long course). The Summer Champs meets will be competed at the King County Aquatic Center next month. Competition at the Champs meets are a great achievement for our younger athletes, and a useful tune-up for those with more experience. While overall team performance is not important, athlete participation is.
The Champs meets are broken into two categories - 14u Age Group Champs, where athletes aged 14 or younger will compete with athletes of their same age, and the Senior Champs, open to all athletes with qualifying times, regardless of age. Qualifying times for both meets can be found below:
For those who have qualifying times, and especially those who are close to the standards, I am also stressing participation in the upcoming Seattle Open meets. The dates of these meets are right up against the entry qualifying deadline for Champs and give us the best opportunity to qualify, or work through long course race planning. Information of the Seattle Open meets can be found at the links below:
Age Group Seattle Open - more information to come
If you are able to attend one of the Seattle Open meets, please indicate your confirmation ASAP! Space will fill up quickly.
Summer Training Schedules
UPAC’s summer training schedules will remain mostly consistent through the end of July. There may be minor changes to your group’s schedule, but we are working hard to avoid anything large or avoidable. The main exception is Saturday morning practice. During the school year, UPAC is regulated to a very, very early time slot on Saturdays. That pressure is alleviated in the summer, and we are able to hold practice later in the morning!
Beginning on June 18th, Saturday practices will run as follows:
Senior, Pre-Senior, & Gold - 8:30am to 10:30am
Silver & Bronze groups - 9:15am to 10:30am
Out of State Competitions
Looking forward to our own Summer competitions, Coach Trever and I would like to gather as large of a senior group as possible to attend the Summer Western Zone Senior Champs. We feel the qualifying times, as well as the relative proximity (Clovis, CA) make this a reasonable goal, but it is going to take athlete and family buy-in to make it a reality!
Seniors with qualifying times are encouraged to take this brief survey of interest.
