Hi Sharks,
First. Let’s all give a Sharks shout-out to Erin Kelley, Angelina Sagaow, Salma Khorramshahgol, and Kate Mason, for breaking a team record this weekend! This phenomenal team of girl power all-stars was able to break our swim team’s girls 15-18 200 IM relay record. The last time it was broken was in 2017. Gooooo Sharks!
We wished our only graduating senior Emma Lee well as this is her last year swimming as a Shark. Emma has been swimming for the Sharks since 2010 when she was a bubbly, energetic six-year-old. The breaststroke is Emma’s favorite stroke, and she excels at it. She has participated twice in CSL All-Stars in the breaststroke. Emma also has been coaching little flippers for the last three seasons. She is so proud of each of them when they make it across the pool for their first meet. Most of all, Emma enjoys all the friends that she has made throughout the years as a Chase Club Shark, from swimmers to little flippers and coaches. In the fall, she’s off to the University of Washington! Best wishes and thank you, Emma, for your years of great swimming and for being a role model for our younger Sharks!
We also had a special guest for this A meet—the Chase Club Sharks *original founder* Vivian Whitestone came to watch our meet this weekend. Vivian ’s son was a competitive swimmer and her daughter wanted to be social with her neighbors, so she created the team with a mix of both. Decades later the program is still going strong and remains true to her original vision.
We have another packed week of activities. Here’s what’s coming up.
- IM Tough
- Last B Meet with Barrington
- Little Flipper Olympics
- Banquet RSVPs
- Photo/video requests
IM Tough
Make sure to read Coach Salma’s recent email on IM Tough information. It’s tomorrow – Monday, July 11 at Chantilly Highlands. It’s not like a typical meet and runs very fast. If your child is swimming please volunteer during one of the two volunteer group times using the SignUp Genius link from Coach Salma. We still need a Clerk of Course volunteer and a timer for the 10 and unders and two timers for the 11 and overs.
Last B Meet
Can you believe this Wednesday is our last Developmental B Meet of the season? Be sure to declare your swimmers by 2 p.m. Monday, July 11. This one is at home so please make sure to volunteer if your Shark is swimming.
Little Flipper Olympics
This annual event is on
Friday, July 15, at 8 a.m. at the HCRA pool. Come and help cheer on
our littlest Sharks as they compete in a few events. Remember, this
is their “big meet” for the year so they need our
support. (p.s. Stick around for a tasty treat.)
Banquet
RSVPs
Last week, Emili Vesilind sent an email
via SignUp Genius requesting RSVPs for this can’t-miss event.
The banquet will be Saturday, July 23.
Please RSVP as soon as possible so Emili can get an accurate head count. The event starts at 6 and ends around 8:30 – 9 p.m.
You won't want to miss
the fun. Our sharks get their end of the season awards, we show our
appreciation to our awesome coaches – and there is a
can’t miss season slideshow. Speaking of the
slideshow…
Share your
photos/videos!
Please feel free to share
any photos you've taken. These will be used to create our
slideshow. Make sure to identify the swimmers in the photos so we
can track who’s who as well. Here’s the link to access
the Google shared drive.

Kudos to our volunteers
Thank you to all our parent volunteers that helped out during both meets this week. We really appreciate the parents and coaches (and even Sharks) who pitched in to set up and break down chairs, tents, tables, and other equipment on Saturday morning. This support saved a lot of time and we were all able to get home and out of the rain a few minutes earlier. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!
Kudos also to Lisa Ali, Kelly Kilga, Jill Rodriguez, and Carolyn Herrmann for leading last Thursday’s ice cream social event (the last one of the season!) and to our pep rally team for organizing a fun egg-on-a-spoon obstacle race. These activities were the “cherry on top” of another great week.
Looking forward to seeing everyone on deck Friday morning for a great Little Flipper Olympics, and hoping to finish the season strong with these final two meets.
Go Sharks!
