Aulea Travel meet success and team break

Aloha Aulea team members,

We had a GREAT week out in California with 15 swimmers competing in either Senior Zones or Futures.  Over in Clovis, coach Kimi led Kai Aus, Walker Slay, Luca Courteau, Tristan Regula, Paige Heiken, Kristen Tanaka, Emery Dill and Tanya Verderame to some great swims.  A special shout out to Walker Slay who made best times in 6 of his 7 events including making a new senior sectional time in the 200 back. Luca Courteau also made a new senior sectional time in the 100 breast!

Over in Santa Clara,we brought 7 swimmers to the USA Swimming Futures Championship.  We had the opportunity to face off against the best teams throught the western region and squared off with many clubs with over 1000 members and showed them that Aulea meant business!  The team included Cate Ferandin, Tehani Kong, Alana Barthel, Tom Caps, Zack West, Taka Khoo and Coach Tim Gallagher.  Alana Barthel led the girls team side with B finals appearances in the 100 and 200 back (12th and 14th place overall).  On the boys side Tom Caps set a new Hawaiian Swimming Open and 17-18 record in the 200 breast with an olympic trials qualifying time of 2:15.78.  Tom went on to win both the 100 and 200 breast.  Zack made A finals in the 100 back (8th place) and B final in the 200 back (10th place) and Coach Tim was the runner up in the 200 back. The 4 boys came together for the 400 medley relay to set a new Hawaiian Swimming record in the 400 medley relay (3:53.06) to place 5th overall.

Today, Tom and Zack will head down to Irvine, CA to participate in the USA Swimming Junior National Championships which begin on Monday and runs from August 1-5.  Please follow our instagram account for live updates.

It's time for team break which is a great time for our swimmers to recharge their batteries.  As coaches, we recommend swimmers try to work out to stay in shape but we recommend doing anything but pool workouts.  We want the swimmers to run, surf, hike, ocean swim, etc.  Small breaks are very refreshing for the swimmers and a great chance to explore other interests.

We will see everyone on August 15th for the Aulea Olympics!

Happy Streamlines and Gooooo Aulea!

Coach Joe
