United,

USA Swimming has implemented new "Safe Sport" policies that all USA Teams are required to adopt and share with our team members. USA Swimming and the YDC Swim Team are committed to making the sport of swimming as safe as possible for everyone involved including first and foremost our athletes. We would like everyone to read over the attached information that consisting of: The Parent/ Athlete Concussion Information, Concussion Consent Forms, YDC Anti-Bullying Policy and the YDC Electronic Communication Policy.

Please read the Concussion Information and print out and sign the attached Concussion Consent Waiver and give it to you coaches at practice. Technically it is a Wisconsin State Law that every student participating in athletics needs to sign and return the waiver before they are able to participate on the team. If you have already signed and given your coaches one of these forms you do not need to worry. If you have any questions please let me know.

Below is the new YDC Anti-Bullying Action Plan and Policies. We want to make sure that all of our members on the team, at the Y and everyone involved with the team feels safe. The Purpose: Bullying of any kind is unacceptable at YMCA of Dane County and will not be tolerated. Bullying is counterproductive to team spirit and can be devastating to a victim. The Club is committed to providing a safe, caring and friendly environment for all of our members. If bullying does occur, all athletes and parents should know that incidents will be dealt with promptly and effectively. Anyone who knows that bullying is happening is expected to tell a coach, board member or athlete/mentor.

Finally, below is the YDC Electronic Communication Policy. Again we want to make sure that all swimmers are safe and have proper interactions between adults, coaches and eachother. The YMCA of Dane County recognizes the prevalence of electronic communication and social media in today’s world. Many of our swimmers use these means as their primary method of communication. While the Club acknowledges the value of these methods of communication, the Club also realizes that there are associated risks that must be considered when adults use these methods to communicate with minors.
