Meridian Swim Association's Swim Into Spring Invitational was
hosted by MSA (Meridian Swim Association) this past weekend, March
22-24, 2013, held at the Damon Fitness Center at Meridian Community
College. The USA Swimming-sanctioned swim meet brought in 140
swimmers and their families to Meridian from throughout the state.
Teams represented were: Laurel Swim Association,
Meridian Swim Association, Mississippi Makos Swim Team of Jackson,
Sunkist Swim Team of Jackson, Southern Mississippi Aquatics Club of
Picayune and Pass Christian, Shockwave Aquatics from Tupelo and
Starkville, Swim Columbus, Storm Swim Team of Amory, and the
Tallahatchie Tidal Wave of New Albany.
The Friday evening event hosted a long distance, 800 meter
freestyle competition, while Saturday and Sunday events hosted
short distance events in all four strokes, freestyle, butterfly,
backstroke and breaststroke, for individual events and relays.
The invitational hosted morning sessions for age groups 10
and under, while afternoon sessions hosted age groups 11 and up.
Ribbons were awarded to places 1 though 8 for each event.
Overall high point awards were given to the female and male
swimmers of each age group. NAS Meridian teamed up with
Meridian Swim Association for the event, bringing in volunteer
service to help as timers. MSA looks forward to hosting its
next swim meet, Mississippi State Games Youth Swimming, June
8-9, 2013. Meridian Swim Association (MSA) is instructed by
