Creekers on a "Mission"
The Long Course Summer Nationals in Mission Viejo were the largest ever. Thirteen Creekers traveled down south, but due to circumstances, only eleven swam. But what Walnut Creek lacked in numbers, we more than made up for in speed. Margee Curran (52) and Hope Curran (19) proved to be the fastest mother-daughter tandem of the meet, winning the 800 Free and 200 Free, respectively. The 200 Free Relay of Dan Willert (71), Ken Burr (69), Norm Stupfel (81), and Jim Delacy (67) handily won the 280+ age group. Susan Keeler (35), Sophia Sotelo (52), Coach Kerry (56), Charlene O'Brien (57), and Martha Alexander combined with their team mates to capture sixteen 2nd, seven 3rd , and multiple Top 10 finishes. The group got to celebrate their fast start with a great team dinner on Friday night. As successful as the meet was for WCM, the coaching staff anticipates a much different experience next spring with the Nationals coming to Santa Clara. Mark your calendars and reserve May 1-4 for what should be our largest team effort since 2009.
