From Coach Paul
I was very pleased with the performance of the swimmers in the Bronze group, as well as the Blue group swimmers that participated in the Dick LaFave meet. Swimmers were attentive, polite, and things went very smoothly for me in my first meet @ SSCD. We also had some pretty spectacular swims; Oliver Holod made his first 2 PNS cuts in the 50 Free and 200 Free. Katherina Chum had a spectacular 100 Fly. Every swimmer that had times from last year in long course had big drops (which we actually expected).
The results from this meet will keep everyone smiling and working hard. That’s why I would like to see high meet attendance. I hope to have several more PNS cuts from the Bronze group, and some really solid results all summer.
I would also like to thank the parents and coaching staff from SSCD for making me feel welcome.
From Coach Dylan
It was another successful year for SSCD swimmers at the annual Dick LaFave long course kick off swim meet, especially our silver swimmers! The transition from short course swimming to long course swimming each year gives swimmers a chance to improve on an entirely new set of times. And although the races are a bit longer and tougher, the swimmers arrive a little older and tougher than the year prior, ready to take on the 50m pool! SSCD's silver swimmers did not back down from the challenge this year and swam nearly 100% best times in every race over the weekend. There is no greater proof of a group's hard work and focus than that!
The Dick LaFave meet gave the silver swimmers lots to be proud of, but also a list of things to improve upon for the rest of the spring and summer (working on distance per stroke in the longer pool, open turns with flat hands, and being more comfortable with swimming the longer back stroke distances, to name a few).
And the best part? It is just the beginning of long course season! It is going to be an exciting summer for the silver group and the rest of the Dolphins.
From Coach Doug
I was happy with the way our SSCD swimmers competed at the Dick LaFave meet. It’s tough to start of the season with a long course meet shortly after coming off of a Spring Break, and not having swum in a long course pool since last July. But across the board the time drops for our swimmers were solid and in many cases, significant. From the SR and Gold groups, here are a few of the few swims that really stood out for me (and almost everybody had big time drops, so I apologize in advance for not mentioning everyone):
Henry Limm, 16, 200 Breast, 2:34.32 (Sectionals time, 6 second drop from last summer)
100 Breast, 1:11.46 (Sectionals time, 2 sec drop)
Angeline Dovinh, 15, 200 Back, 2:35.85 (9 sec drop)
Jotham Mei, 13, 200 Back, 2:48.96 (16 sec drop)
Conor Quinn, 13, 200 Free, 2:33.32 (9 sec drop), 200 Back, 2:48.69 (8 sec drop)
Paul Shkurinskiy, 14, 100 Free, 1:03.37 (7 sec drop)
We also had the following LC PNS Champs qualifiers: Song-Nhi Vo, 13 (in 4 events); Angeline Dovinh (in 5 events), Grace Hatscher, 12 (in 4 events), Jonathan Ke, 13 (in 2 events)
Great job everyone…See you at the Pool!
