SASKATOON – Noemie Thomas of Richmond, B.C., completed a golden sweep of the butterfly events on Saturday to conclude the Canadian Swimming Championships.

Thomas, the winner in the 50-m and 100-m butterfly races earlier this week, dominated Saturday’s 200-m race in two minutes and 12.02 seconds. Haley Black of Prince George, B.C., was second at 2:15.44 and Jacomie Strydom of Edmonton third in 2:16.45.

Thomas matches Jeremy Bagshaw of Victoria for the most individual gold medals at the competition.

With her time, the 17-year-old Black qualifies for the Canadian team for the Junior Pan Pacific Championships set for August 27-31 in Hawaii.

‘’This is a team I’ve wanted to be on since I was 15,’’ said Black. ‘’I knew it would come down to the wire for me to make it so I was really pleased with that time which was close to my personal best. I held the race together really well and my kicking was strong from start to finish.’’

Other winners in women’s competition were Samantha Harding of Winnipeg in the 800-m freestyle, Caroline Lapierre-Lemire of the Pointe-Claire Swim Club in the 50-m freestyle, Erin Stamp of Guelph, Ont., in the 200-m individual medley and Pointe-Claire in the 4X100-m medley relay.

‘’It was great to finish with a personal best time,’’ said Stamp, who clocked 2:16.88.  ‘’My preparation going in to the race really paid off but I was a bit nervous this week.  I’m happy with my season but there is still a lot to improve upon.’’

Chris Manning of Brantford, Ont., clocked 22.63 seconds for the win in the men’s 50-m freestyle to rank him second among the fastest Canadians at the distance this year.  Cameron Kidd, also of Brantford, was second in 22.67 and Hassaan Abdel-Khalik of Etobicoke, Ont., third at 23.12.

Other male winners were Mack Darragh of Oakville, Ont., in the 200-m butterfly, Alec Page of the Swimming Canada High Performance Centre - Victoria in the 200-m individual medley, Kier Maitland of Edmonton in the 1500-m freestyle and the University of Calgary in the 4x100 medley relay.
