ORCA Summer JO Max Championship Meet 2014

ORCA SUMMER JO MAX CHAMPIONSHIP MEET

2014

“Feeling gratitude and not expressing it

is like wrapping a present and not giving it.”

~ William Arthur Ward

Once again the ORCA volunteers and coaches provided a safe, fun, and hospitable meet for 7 teams of swimmers, their fans and coaches who enjoyed competitive swimming, and a last chance for swimmers to achieve SJO cuts. As is the ORCA custom, the ORCA News dedicates the hosted meet’s issue to all the wonderful volunteers without whom the meet could not take place. Thank you to all the volunteers at this meet for a job well done, with a special mention to the swimmer volunteers and their siblings. Thanks to all the ORCA swimmers who jumped in to help at staging for the 25 yard events in the mornings. Clarissa and Harlan Hoyt worked concessions with the composure and experience of adults, Kelsea Lemmel and Gracie Tessitore performed their duties in the awards area with conscientious and reliable maturity, and Lawrence Oxborough owned the mic as the announcer for Saturday afternoon session (it was heard on more than one occasion that he should announce at all meets all the time!! Lawrence??) This ORCA news would not be complete without a shout out to the following lead volunteers; Linda Tessitore, meet manager, Bob Davis, set-up and take-down foreman (Bob is also the all-around fix-it guy on deck), Bev Mueller, concessions manager, and Susan  Chi, Coach’s Hospitality lead, along with Fawne Yamashiro and Monica Pacis. Linda Tessitore and Christine Wartenberg deserve the “red cross” award for their swift and professional response to one of our fallen guests, who was dispatched to the care of the paramedics after initial assessment and first aid was given. Good job, ladies!

Eighty eight ORCA swimmers earned a total of 273 best times.
