Phillips stands out for Marlins at state meet

Samantha Phillips turned in stellar swims at the 12-and-Under Kentucky State Championship Long Course Meters last weekend at the University of Louisville.
Phillips qualified for the championship final of each event in which she competed to lead the Owensboro Marlins to a best finish among Western Kentucky teams. She placed second in the Girls 11-12-year-old 200 and 400 freestyle, fourth in the 200 individual medley and 100 freestyle, fifth in the 100 breaststroke, sixth in the 50 breaststroke and 100 butterfly and eighth place in the 50 freestyle.
Overall, Phillips captured third place in the high-point standings for her age group. Phillips also has been honored with being one of eight 11-12 girls across the state to be selected to the Kentucky Zone Team, and will compete in at the Southern Zone Age Group Championships in San Antonio, Texas, July 29-Aug. 2. The Kentucky team will compete against all-star teams from 10 other states.
Other Marlins swimmers who qualified to swim in the finals were Cordell Langton with finishes of 14th in the 100 breaststroke and 16th in the 50 breaststroke in the 10-and-Under Boys division, and Abby Warren who finished 16th in the 100 breaststroke in the Girls 10-and-Under age group.
A pair of Marlin relay teams also medaled at the championship meet. Langton along with teammates Noah Satterly, Trevor Church and Adam McCabe medaled in the Boys 10-and-Under 200 medley relay with an eighth-place finish. On the girls' side, Darby Haire, Jenna Luckett, Paige Neal and Abby Warren finished eighth in the Girls 10-and-Under 200 medley relay.
