Top Swims At This Year's Holiday Classic

In what has become the premier mid-season meet for the region’s finest swimmers, athletes from across New Jersey and as far away as Connecticut, Long Island, Massachusetts, and upstate New York converged on Rutgers University in Piscataway, NJ for the 28thAnnual Holiday Classic, hosted by Eastern Express.

Just qualifying for this meet is notable.

Our 10 competitors (of our 18 qualifying swimmers) represented our team well, making their presence known! Competing against many teams with 30+ swimmers, our 7 girls and 3 boys earned 159 points (up from 112 points last season), placing 21st out of 54 teams in the combined team division (up from 29th last year).  42 Career Best Times were swum; even our elite swimmers continue to grow!

Throughout the weekend, our kids splashed in with top finishes. Abbey Gardner led the pack with three 1st Places (100 Fly, 100 & 200 Free), a 2nd in the 50 Free, and a third in the 500 Free. Sam Russell made it back for Finals in two events (50 Free, 100 Breast), and Jake Riva finished 7th in his 100 Back, and 9th in his 50 Back. There were a ton of other great swims.

This year our Swordfish earned an incredible 17 JO Times by Abbey Gardner (200, & 500 Free, 100 Fly); Emily Haudek (100 & 200 Back, 100 & 200 Fly); Emily Rothamel (100 Back); Samantha Russell (50, 100, & 200 Free, 100 Back, 100 Breast, 100 Fly, 200 IM); and Henry Bysshe (50 & 100 Back)!

Out of our 54 races over the 3 days, 52 of them were YMCA States times!

A special congrats to Emily Haudek who earned two YMCA Nationals time in the 100 Fly with a time of 58.78. She will be returning to the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, North Carolina in April. We are very proud of her!

Congratulations to our swimmers and coaches on a great weekend!
