Marlins Win Tell City Meet

 

The Owensboro Marlins outdistanced seven other teams last weekend to win the Summer Conference Championship long course meters swim meet at Tell City, Indiana. On the way to the first-place team finish, Marlins swimmers set 36 individual and relay meet records.

Individual event winners include Gabrielle Velez (400 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, and 200 IM), Michael Hampel (100, 200 and 400 freestyle, 200 and 400 IM, 100 and 200 breaststroke, 100 butterfly), Samantha Phillips (100, 200 and 400 freestyle, 400 IM, 100 and 200 breaststroke, 100 backstroke, 200 butterfly), Landon Rafferty (400 IM, 100 and 200 breaststroke), Charlie Hall (100 backstroke, 200 butterfly), Mia Bruno (50 freestyle), Xavier Evans (200 backstroke), Kara Bane Luckett (50 breaststroke), Stone Perkins (50 and 100 breaststroke, 50 and 100 backstroke, 50 and 100 freestyle, 50 butterfly), Noah Satterly (50 and 100 backstroke, 200 IM), Paige Neal (50 freestyle, 50 butterfly).

Several Marlins relay teams also captured first place finishes. Mary Kelly Hyland, Gabrielle Velez, Samantha Phillips, and Isabelle Velez won the Open 200 Medley and Freestyle relays while Ava Hyland, Jenna Luckett, Paige Neal, and Sydney Perkins won both the 10 and Under 200 Medley and Freestyle relays as well. On the boys' side, Xavier Evans, Michael Hampel, Grant Luckett, and Charlie Hall swam to a first place finish in the 200 Medley relay while Hampel, Luckett, Landon Rafferty and Andrew St. Clair combined to win the 200 Freestyle relay. In the 10 and Under Medley relay, Noah Satterly, Ben Johnson, Stone Perkins and Ben Hyland finished first.

In addition to event winners, three Marlins swimmers took home the high-point award in their age group: Michael Hampel (Open), Samantha Phillips (13-14), and Stone Perkins (7-8).
